Nice old hotel. And yes they have some very impressive mounts. Stayed there 2 years ago before heading up into the Flat Tops wilderness for a first season elk drop camp hunt. Managed to kill a nice bull but nothing like those in the Meeker Hotel.
I carry a fixed blade and a DMT Diamond sharpener along with a Havalon. Like the Havalon but have snapped blades off while quartering elk out. Have found out changing a blade while your hands and knife are bloody and slippery can be a chore.
I used a relatively inexpensive soft case that had a sling on it the other year. I just felt my rifle had a softer ride on my back than strapped to the rack of my atv.
Wow that sucks. Never dealt with Sciatica, heard it can be painful. I blew a knee out about 10 years ago just before a horseback drop camp elk hunt in Colorado. With my doctors approval got a good brace and painkillers and made the trip. Second day I killed a 5x5 so the pain was worth it. Good...
Ask my mechanic several years ago when I was in the market for a new truck, Gas or Diesel. He told me realistically unless you have a trailer behind your truck most of the time gas is the way to go.
Look at New Mexico for outfitters with private land landowner tags. Most if not all states are now on a preference point draw system. Realistically 3-4 points is not a lot of points in many states. Landowner tags will insure you go elk hunting. Elk hunting with an outfitter nowadays is by no...
I had the same thing happen with my Christensen FFT 7 PRC. Hornady 175 gr ELD-X. was the ammo. Turns out it was the Hornady ammo. Anything in Federal or my reloads were fine. The rifle turned out to be a tack driver. Couldn't be happier.
Pretty much subjective to the shooter. Some handle recoil some don't. My wife shoots my 300 mag. with no issues my son in law is not a fan. I'm not a fan of muzzle brakes but they really work. A suppressor on a short barrel rifle is a really nice setup. Don't overlook a Sims Limbsaver Airtech...
Had unimpressive results with several rifles with factory mono bullets. With reloads the story is different. Barnes LRX in both my 300 mag and 7 PRC have done really well with minimal testing. As with most if not all mono bullets the expansion is limited. I hate to waste meat but if I'm using...
My buddy came up with a rather inexpensive walk in cooler. He bought a cheap 6x6 shed off facebook marketplace insulated it. Bought a CoolBot and a 8000 Btu Lg air conditioner. Hung my elk quarters in it for 2 days and it works great. Keeps the shed a constant 37 degrees. Claims he has just...
