The maven RS1.2 passes the drop test and I believe would be a good candidate. I can bang steel on X8 easily at 626 yards. I haven’t shot to 1200 yards due to range restrictions however I know that scope is capable of getting you there. As mentioned above the Swfa might be your best choice for...
147 eldM 30 yards and 70 yards on whitetail doe this fall. No exit.. however vitals were mush. 5 yards on one and 50 yard downhill death run on the other. They definitely work up close.
LEKI Khumbu Lite Aluminum is what I use. They have worked good for me the last few years of mountain hunts/trips. No hesitation to recommend. $120 reg or $100 on sale.
Flip locks- I like for adjustability. You need to adjust based on ascent, decent, and occasional sidehilling.

I currently use a Kuiu storm star 2 which I like for alpine sheep hunting. I use the Kuiu with confidence. I have also seen and /or heard of the MSR HUBBA HUBBA, SG and various Hilliberg tents being used. Discussed a lot on here if you use the search function on specific tents.
If you plan to...
Different kinds of sheep live in many different climates. What area, season, and species are you after? Can make a big difference on shelter recommendations.
I found the JVB podcast to be mostly fair to form and a lot of his thought processes. Yes he disagreed on a few things(such as quartering shots with match light caliber). However he agreed on most and even some things I wouldn’t have expected such as using match ammo on deer. It’s a good thing...
Just seeing if anyone had real world experience using this Tempest WEATHERmeter? Connects via bluetooths and works with the shooter/geoballistics apps. Has wind, temp, and density altitude. No screen though. Let me know if you have used and what you think. Thanks
I can second that .270 130gr Hornady SST I killed a ton of deer with. Ranges from 10ft to 600 yards. I would have to look back but somewhere in the ~30-40 harvests with said combo. Lost a buck with a poor shot once and it was my fault.
Lost a doe hit in the front shoulder broadside just over...
Not sure how international shipping works.. but I would try them for a replacement. Kuiu brand is to be the best fabrics and fit. They had better stand up to that reputation.
I use the kuiu rifle cover which is basically a rip off of the solo hunter I am told. Gets the job done in nasty weather. If it’s on when I am bushwhacking it still has small sticks and pine needles.. however it comes off quickly if I were to need it. Fair enough trade off.
I use the pretzel tactikka 450lm. I weighed it at 2.89oz. I believe they make lighter less lumen models as well. I also use this for morning runs switching it to different powers based on amounts of artificial light. It’s plenty bright in the backcountry. Comes with a long lasting rechargeable...
I am happy with my current choice. A 6.5 creed Tikka SS cut to 18” with UM SS pro 4 muzzle brake. Maven RS 1.2 and UM lows mounted to factory rail. Rokstok arca/pic to use with a Leofoto tripod. Shooting Hornady ELDM 147. (8.1lbs) without sling or loaded mag.

Have used the zeiss conquest for ~ 6 months now. They are high quality optics for an affordable price. Great fov and outstanding light transmission. Buy them both try out for a day or week and send the pair back you don’t like. It’s a bit inconvenient having to return.. however better than...
When I purchased they ran a tiny amount to verify like .50c . So they could easily cancel those orders. However one would hope they would have done that a year ago..
On a recent mountain hunt my pack and rifle went end over end then proceeded to clack a rock on the wind turret cover. I for some reason trusted it without confirmation which I would not have in the past. Shot today and was ~ 2/10 of a mil off to the right. For that violent of a spill I thought...
Anyone with experience in unit 501? What’s the hiking like? Hiking on the moon. Lots of rocks big and small.
Is it steep? Yes it sure can be in a lot of areas. The area has some of the highest peaks in Montana
Thick brush? In areas shred your clothes thick and pokey
Is water readily...
