Wow! Sorry to hear that. I had similar…hope you do bette than I did. Covid restrictions killed my 2020 mule deer MT hunt. Then I got covid right before Thanksgiving. Spent 1 week in the hospital and a couple months in a chair with oxygen healing up. Every day was awful. Then I got back to work...

    Tell me about "dialing"

Let me give some practical advice based on a non-Uber elite hunters actual shooting. i have a 300 Sherman that I have shot over my Labradar. It shoots 3050 fps. i shoot Berger eh 180 gr. Berger says the G7 is 0.295. Im pretty sure of my 100 yd zero. To get my Kestrel to match dope, I have to...

    Boa experiences?

I have used BOA in my work shoes/boots for about 5 years or so…..always Redwings. It is great to be able to wear shoes loose through as tight as I can imagine! Easily repaired when damaged….although this has been rare in the last couple pair.

    Property owner takes trail cam

You could be from OH. I think trail cameras are illegal as are permanent tree stands on public property.

Maven RS2 vs Vortex Viper HS

I had the Viper HS 4-16. I found it to be great for what it is. It is optically very clear, had crisp repeatable turrets. I never had an issue at the range or in the field. Nice and light too. I sold mine due to wanting an SFP reticle and cap less turrets with zero stop.

Base Layers vs down layers. How do you roll?

Layer 1: lightweight long Johns as base always. layer 2: heavyweight fleece long Johns, layer 3: fleece pants and jacket. layer 4: vest. layer 5: outer shell and shell pants…camo + waterproof/breathable At 40-55 deg F, I wore layer 1 and layer 5 this year. I have only wore all 5 layers...

    Shot Placement and Terminal Performance

Mule Deer 280 yds 300 Sherman Berger 180 EH Behind shoulder, about 2” above COM….so about 4” high; hit 1 or both lungs and clipped the bottom of the spine; exited high and back a ways….deer was not as sideways to me as I thought. Really good bullet performance. DRT

    Painless load development (mine)

…..but doesn’t variation in drop make you worse than at at 100 yds? IME, 100 YD groups are determined by variation in bullet flight

    Painless load development (mine)

These are good short cuts, but only that. 1.5” groups are caused by some mismatch in my experience. …like barrel to bullet Ive developed off bad initial groups, but it never becomes great, just acceptable. if you can put 25 downrange through fired brass after 100 rounds, you will know if it is...

Reaming an AI chamber by hand

I would put the barrel on and see how many rotations from touching the bolt head until the GO gage fits. Actually, I think I would thread It until it stops on the GO gage, mark the barrel and action, then thread it on more w/o the gage until the bolt head stops it. Then pull out some Trig to...
