Woodbow, Thanks! My loops have 2" of material sandwiched in between the two layers of 1000D and MOLLE. Each loop has two bartacks and two straight stitches going through them. I'm not worried about the strength. I like the look of the loops coming out from between the two layers of grosgrain...
Lockster, My Kenmore 158 series was a standard everyday sewing machine back in the day (1969 is when it was built I believe). There's nothing special about it, although I would say it is very heavy duty compared to todays machines. I also have a $67 Brother sewing machine from Walmart. It's very...
I got my Kenmore up and running again and decided to tackle a cargo panel. I basically reverse engineered Kifaru's and went for it. I made mine with 1000D on the inside and outside. I was running low on material so I had to throw some seams on the inside panel to make the length. I added an inch...
All of the guy out points are double bar tacked through the paracord, silnylon, and the Kryptek 500 D cordura reinforcement panels. I sewed the perimeter reinforcements on before I did the double rolled hem. I held them in about 1". The I double rolled the perimeter hem over them and sewed it...
I have no experience with a walking foot. I have a heavy duty Kennmore that took a crap on me right before I started the tarp so I used my $70 Brother from Walmart. It did phenomenal with the tarp given its lightweight material. I was aware the top piece of silnylon would end up being longer if...
cmc,
There are no cat cuts on this tarp. They're all straight. It is a flat felled seam. I did not use any tape or pins. I just took my time and worked through it slowly. The toughest part is getting the seam started.
The one you make is going to be the least expensive and the one you'll get the most enjoyment out of. I just posted a thread on my first one in DIY. I'll be in SW CO four two weeks in September. Knowing I made my own shelter and the quality is good is a great feeling. When you design it and know...
I sewed one up on a scrap piece and thoroughly tested it before I went for it. I never did get it to fail. There is actually a good amount of surface area to a gutted piece of paracord. Cut a piece open length wise and you can see. With the right thread and stitch, I think this will make very...
Vanish, with seven yards of material, thread, and seam sealer, I think it would be somewhere around $60 in material. I had the Kryptek material and the paracord lying around.
