I've often wondered if I would ever bother with ttsx's in my 10 twist 270. The LRX's shoot great out of that rifle (Baco featherweight). Had it out to 550 on steel and have zero complaints. Doubt I'll ever try anything else.
I had one in 308, no complaints. Shot 178 eldx factory ammo sub moa consistently. I had medium 30mm talley lightweights and a vx5 3-15 and had no ejection issues or bolt throw issues. Only reason I got rid of it was for that much weight I'd rather have more steam so picked up a couple 300...
I don't think it's destroying hunting. I like all the crap that's come out in recent years. From better tackle to apparel to GPS...books, podcasts, websites et al have helped me quite a bit I believe. Ironically, I've come full circle in certain instances, example: thought I needed an uber...
I have the same "problem" right now too. Ruger Hawkeye stainless 30-06. Although, I'm looking at either a 270 or 280. I have a 6x42 Leupold I want to pair it with. Probably I'll go with 270 and a 22.5 - 23 inch barrel.
When I chrono'd it out of my Winchester Extreme Weather 300 wsm 5 rounds averaged 2800 fps. I've had tremendous accuracy out of my particular setup with this factory cartridge. Won't be changing anytime soon.
I have scapegoat 35, pintler, selway and a gen 1 marshall. Trizip just works well for me. No issues with water and I hunt oregon/alaska so always wet. Love them all.
Another nod for a ruger American ranch. Mine is shot suppressed, vx2 3-9x50 duplex, AR mags, atlas bipod currently, shoots heavies reliably sub moa to 400 so far but what I really love is taking down clay pigeon shrapnel at 200 yards with wolf gold 55 grain plinking ammo. I shoot that rifle 10x...
I know it's not on your list, but I'll echo what others have mentioned regarding the 270, especially with factory copper rounds. 129 grain Barnes LRX out of my 22 inch featherweight gives way more range than my Christensen Arms 308 did when shooting mono's. It's a flat shooter too and the...
Can't comment on the Weatherby, while the CA Mesa is a fine rifle my preference would be for the Browning because of the bolt throw and safety locking mechanism compared to the remington pattern CA (I used to own a ridgeline 308 and xbolt 300wsm).
Winchester featherweight 270, talley rings, leupold vx3i 3-10x40 cds. Will weigh about 8lbs, shoot lights out and cost about $1,250 for everything brand new. Then you've got some money leftover for a timney and/or bedding if desired.
I did the exact thing a month or so ago and have a couple...
That was my impression prior to purchase and while I have nothing to complain about - it's a matter of I don't know due to lack of experience and no access to a kowa for a comparison. Thanks for the eye relief comment, I hadn't considered that.
I think maybe I'll stay put for the time being...
That is one issue - I've been averaging an every other year hunt in AK because I have 2nd degree relatives that like to hunt rams too. My Leica purchase was driven by my (unsuccessful) sheep hunt in '17, and my kit (and belly) trimming is in no small part a result of what I've learned the last...
Thanks for the response! At what ranges do you find the kowa doing best? Any thoughts on first light vs last light, as in looking down into dark timber or looking at animals 1500 yards away? I should add, part of my thought process also includes whether or not I should give up some weight loss...
