Following to see the replies. I have a Mesa in 7RM with a few hundred down the pipe. At the rate I’m shooting, I will have to get it rebarreled sooner rather than later.
I have been looking at one as well also in 6.5CM These guys have a good back-and-forth regarding the pros and cons about the platform. When it comes down to it, I think I’m going to just go with a Tikka. Hard to beat that rifle at under $1000.

Got this same pair and they’re a great buy. I also got a pair of the Kuhl Resistor pants on sale at REI. They’re a step up from the Costco pants in fit and quality. I expect the Resistors to last longer but both have been great pants.
Huge shoutout to everyone who contributed on this thread! Just finished my hunt and had an epic day. Used all the advice I got and turned it into dinner for the next few days. I’ll do my best to pay it forward for others in the future.

I use both. My darn tough socks work great for early to mid season hunts or summer hiking. For winter, I won’t use anything other than SmartWool. That’s mostly under waders for steelhead fishing or duck hunting but I’d have to assume it’d be the same for big game. Both options I run liners…always.
I lived in Portland for 5 years and would go back to the PNW in a heartbeat. It definitely wouldn’t be Portland, but somewhere east of the cascades. Best of luck to you and your family!

All great options. You get an additional 20% off this weekend if you use code LABOR22.
Edit: Pretty good deal on this bag. There are better options but not at this price point. Comes in around $110.00 with the 20% discount...
I was actually just wondering this same thing. I’m looking to upgrade my tent for the backcountry. Not sure the hammock will make sense in late-season hunts but could be a good option earlier here in CA. Curious what others say.
Like others have said, time for an upgrade. Last thing you want is to be freezing while trying to sleep after a day of climbing up and down a mountain. REI is having a sale in their outlet right now. Some pretty decent bags for sale if you look around.
This is exactly what I do. I also always have my glasses as well for back up. Have had a couple times I’ve dropped a contact on the ground and lost it forever. Glasses will save your hunt if you have bad vision and lose a contact.
I was lucky enough to get drawn for a hunt on public land (Central California) which only allows limited hunters on the refuge opening day. The refuge is 3ish hours away so I just won’t be able to get there to scout before the hunt. That said, I am spending a lot of time on OnX scouting the area...
For those of you who use bear spray, what do you do with expired canisters? I’ve heard the aerosol leaks over the years meaning the effective distance could be drastically reduced. To be on the safe side I bought a new spray and shelved the old one. It is still sitting in my garage so now I need...
