I guess I'll just have to stay in line for my 3-9 then. I ordered it last night and then saw this thread today and thought about canceling and ordering the in stock. Oh well.
A good first aid kit. Thankfully I havent needed it for anything more than pain meds, ad meds, and blister prevention but it feels a lot better knowing I have one with me.
One thing we had in WY this year that will be a permanent fixture now is Gatorade powder.
I have one that I bought used but couldn't pass up another at that price. Plus the one I have is a little snug with all multiple layers so I went up a size.
I didn't really have any new gear that I used this year, but I did put my gear into new situations with my first elk hunt.
Cheap Amazon gaiters did great in the snow.
Irish Setter elk trackers continued to provide comfortable miles and do reasonably well with managing water (I did treat them...
A couple bad lyrics from a band with normally great writing, Turnpike Troubadours:
"The situation went the way the situation went" (although I dont think Evan Felker wrote that one)
And "first I'd been glad to hear the flashing red and blue" which is particularly noticeable because the rest of...
This was home for our WY elk hunt this year. Tent is a $40 craigslist special that I'm pretty sure is missing some parts but it didn't collapse in all the snow so it deserves at least a little credit. Thankfully I brought a buddy heater.
I know what they say, and I'll be glad for someone to chime in and correct me, but everything I have seen indicates that they are incorrectly adding the sawtooth to the list. There are no straps in position to accommodate the lid. Look at pictures of the Metcalf and beartooth and note how the...
You can't attach it to the Sawtooth, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I was disappointed when I realized this. You could get some webbing and buckles and make a way for it to work since you already have the lid.
I think its a highly group-specific kind of thing to deal with. For me, anybody going on the trip is splitting gas cost even if they don't have a tag. Its usually around 3800 miles round trip so thats a decent investment in time and money and energy. I personally don't feel right asking someone...
Use the rub line to find more high percentage indicators of travel like scrapes or feed trees. Look for terrain features the deer will use, like saddles. I kill deer from the ground in open woods every year with no blind. You have to keep walking til you find a spot you are confident they will...
1) Most of the "stay home" orders specifically exempt outdoor activities. They recognize that time outdoors is healthy and will help people combat this virus and other health problems that could arise. I haven't seen anyone even suggesting that hunting seasons be shut down except for...
As you watch every other channel drift into vlog life or something else, Dave's videos are the epitome of quality hunting content. And he is an outstanding turkey hunter. I've picked up a lot of knowledge from his videos and the confidence to call more (even though I dont sound as good as he...
