I have a sawtooth with a Lite Outdoors 18" stove. Im wondering if its worth the wight to carry a collapsable saw and hatchet to process larger wood for longer burn times in the stove. Or just burn sticks that can be broken to length?
I have a Sevens Saw and a Ultimate Survival hand chain saw...
My sawtooth is getting 3sets of titanium tent stakes from Massdrop. And Im also probably going to get a Bearpaw net tent custom made to fit. The girlfriend is not about to sleep on the ground with the bugs.
This years purchases include: Sawtooth, Ti Stove, Ti Emberlit cooking stove, Ti cooking pot and spork, 2 EE 20deg quilts, 2 exped pads, Leupold Golden Ring spotter, Siri carbon fiber tripod; not to mention a Proof Research barrel for the hunting rifle.
Still going to get a EXO 5500 or Stone...
I am having a 28" proof research barrel put on my 338LM, and I am also considering having it improved. Its a Rem 700 MLR with a 6-20x50 Extended Range MK4 (34mm tube). Hoping the whole gun is under 10lbs when done. I plan to pack it into the back country, then glass and shoot from a hilltop...
Ive seen a picture of one setup with a pole outside in the back. I think the owner added a loop on the outside that he would tie to a tree or cut a pole and run a guy line up and over.
This is why Im leaning toward the Sawtooth. It seems like it will have more space while laying down but less head room to stand, which is fine with us. The big issue is how to set up a large 2 person inner nest or bug shelter. I might have to cut a hole in a bug tent and run the short pole...
I have a few questions for the tipi and nest owners out there. Im a big guy, 6' 6" 275LBS, and my Girl is 6' as well. Im looking for a tipi and stove for late fall hunting and early spring backpacking with the girlfriend. She is against the idea of a tent without bug protection, which has me...
Im also on the same track. Im going to have my 338LM rebarreled with a 30" PROOF Research carbon fiber barrel. Mine is a steel action in a HS stock plus glass, so even with the CF barrel it won't be 6lbs.
I would encourage you to stay with the 338LM if you plan to take long shots on big game...
