rhendrix,
I either carry a Bivy or some sort of groundsheet with my floorless shelter (SL5), so no probably not overkill, but my Bivy weighs 8 oz.
I used to have a Bivy that weighed 31 oz and that setup in conjunction with a floorless shelter for me would be a bit much for me.
Congrats on the new pack. I thought I bought my last pack when I bought the Longhunter, then I bought a KU 3700 and now I want the Spikecamp, then I will be finished!
mtnkid pretty well summed it up.
With that said I have several shelters for different kinds of trips. This weekend the TI Goat Bivy and tarp are getting the nod, last weekend it was the SL-3, the weekend before that was the BA Copper Spur 1. Scouting trips i used Gossamer Gears "The One"...

I have the Exped UL 7 and the Raven Bivy. Plenty of room with a GoLite 20 degree sleeping bag. I had the regular Ti goat Bivy, but sent it back in favor of the Raven Omni and so far I am happy with it in the 2 nights I have used it.
I have too many shelters, but I like matching the shelter to the trip.
For a true bivy hunts;
2 years ago I used an ID Unishelter Bivy and a 5x8 tarp. Loved this setup as the bivy is bulletproof but this setup was a bit heavy at 41ounces. Last year I used Gossamer Gear's "The One" and a...
I just bought the Zeiss 15-56-65. Great scope, but I wear glasses and between 25-35 zoom it is very hard to get a full sight picture without re adjusting eye position and cramming my glasses down to the eyepeice. Does anyone know if the 20-75-85 would be any better with the large objective??
