.50 cal muzzleloader bullet to bore vs sabot

No sabots allowed for CO elk. I really like the Barnes TEZ sabots, but I also want to hunt elk so trying out Thor and Federal Trophy Copper. Out of my CVA they all shoot pretty close to the same—tight groups at 100 yards!

CWD To Eat Or Not To Eat

It’s hard to throw it away, but I will not eat cwd positive meat. I quit getting any sausage made from places where all of the deer get mixed together. Here are 4 great webinars on current CWD info: https://mnpro.umn.edu/outreach-resources

    Never boiling whitetail skull again

The deadheads I find I just leave in a bucket of water for a few weeks in the summer heat—you’d be amazed at how well this works. I flush it once or twice.

    Running Shoes

I only wear ASICS Kayano, and I supplement with Superfeet green once they’re halfway through life. These have solved my knee problems. Also, replace shoes every 350-400 miles.

    WSJ article on CWD

I’m in the core area in WI. Deer like this are becoming a regularity. I’ve killed deer that can barely walk, and they come back with a positive CWD test. Picture is from the land I hunt. I’m not sure how others are claiming they haven’t seen it—all of my friends in the neighboring areas are...

    WSJ article on CWD

There is a test for live deer—here in WI they have been netting deer, taking an anal core sample to test for CWD, collar the deer, and do a necropsy when the deer dies. CWD rates are climbing and we have deer dying from it. Lots of misinformation posted here from people that haven’t witnessed...

Thor bullet results in elk camp CO

I tried the Thor .500 300s in my CVA Optima. They shoot great but they’re so dang hard to load I’m worried about being out in the mountains and ending up with a broken ramrod or a bullet stuck 1/2 way down my barrel. Some days they load fine, other days they just refuse to load…probably going to...
