Same here. Jeff was kind enough to spend about an hour with me on the phone talking about what I really needed and ended up going the 300 win mag route. It is currently at rbros getting some work done.
This or a 270/300 win, or 270/280ai maybe a interesting build. Or even a 270 stw. I think with this bullet coming out you will definitely see some 270 wildcats coming out.
In rifles with an extended box or long action bdl bottom possibly. A standard short action I highly doubt unless it is a single shot. Without getting a custom gun built I don't see the throat being long enough to utilize full cartridge capacity. I honestly think the WSM cartridges operate on too...
There was some legislation that was supposed to go through that if you have a ccw that would make it legal to carry during archery. Not sure if it went through. With all the grows in many parts of this state I would say you are a complete retard not to carry. Even though I would be way more...
I use a dry bag for my bag and pad. Food gets organized in gallon zip lock bags per day. You can use zip locks to organize all your other gear as well. I use kifaru pullouts but zip locks are a great cheap alternative.
So to give an update I am doing a somewhat budget minded gun that Travis with Rbros is doing some work on. Looking forward to getting this gun back. I ended up going with a 300 win mag and going to be throwing 215 Bergers down range.
Yep stayed in the old trailer at the bottom of the hill. Killed my first buck about 50 yards below that 600 plate. Killed my first archery buck just above the 400 plate.
Rancho Cielo alto. Grew up there. Small world. Some of those marks on the plate may be mine from long ago. That's crazy! Lots of memories on that place.
Where in NorCal are you? I have a seek outside 8 man tipi and a copper spur ul4 for my multi person shelters if you want to check them out. I am in Shasta county.
It is in between a mid and heavy weight long range. It is more of a semicustom than a build at the moment due to funds. When is all said and done I'm hoping to be in the 10-11 lb range finished with optics. Hopefully be sending 215 bergers out of it in the 2900 fps ballpark.
I am building a 300 wm right now. Cheaper to shoot and can do what I need it to do. I would give the 30 a couple years to see how it does and if brass goes down. You are stuck with nosler brass too.
Whatever the scale would say leaving the trailhead. I don't weight my pack because it doesn't matter to me. I bring what I know I need. I try to buy the lightest quality items I can afford. For one hunting trip leaving the trailhead I can be 35 lbs, a trip with the family I can be in the 75 ball...
