Tall_Vol44 I have a Phil Wilson South Fork in K390 and really really love the steel. It’s been used for field dressing elk and deer and then butchering. Sharpening on a stone is something it has only seen once in the 8 years I’ve had it. Although I do hit a strop after I am done field dressing...
There are no axis deer on Kauai. I’ve seen a crap load of goats on the cliffs of the Nepali coast. Lots of pigs on the island and there is a small population of blacktail too. Hunt Fish Kauai is a guide on the island they would be a good place to start.
Bark river ultralight bushcrafter. It’s light and with 3v steel it’s super tough and holds an edge very well. It’s my backup to my Phil Wilson and a good option for general tasks that I won’t do with my Phil Wilson.
The M7 is a soft shell and Yukon is a pure rain jacket. If you’re going to deal with rain Yukon all the way. If you are dealing with cold wet conditions (a tad bit of rain but most snow) M7 is your huckleberry.
Update. The harness arrived a couple days ago and it was an easy switch for the old harness on my FHF bino pouch. It is certainly more comfortable that the previous one. My only complaint is the webbing to attach the top of the harness is pretty short. While it’s not restrictive I wish the...
FHF website says the new harness will fit their previous models. I always felt that the older harness was lacking comfort so I ordered the new one. I used snail mail so it will be about a week before I find out if the new one is more comfortable.
We have a 2015 Jayco 154bh Baja edition and I pull it with my 2017 taco (pulled it with a 2011 Nissan frontier before that). I’ve taken it to ID from CA many many times for elk hunting. It’s light at 2,600 dry so the weight isn’t a problem. However, it’s a big box and aerodynamics are not its...
I have the sawtooth jacket. It’s good for temperature regulation and works really well with a backpack due to placement of insulation (front) and merino (back). I do have one complaint. The insulated panels on the chest and shoulders don’t stretch or move so it feels restricted when drawing a bow.
You have a whole state with way better hunting tha Ca, why would you want to pay NR price to hunt the worst state in the west. North of Vegas is a whole lot of BLM and national forest. I’ve hunted Nevada once and wish I could draw a tag there every year. Just start applying for tags to units to...
I was born and raised in New Mexico and miss the food so much. Nothing else like it. Now I am unfortunately in California and the only food I can think of that is unique to this place is tri tip. Everything else is from somewhere else.
Body armor is only one issue, they are also wanting gun owners to have liability insurance.
SB505 https://sd09.senate.ca.gov/news/20220616-sen-skinner-introduces-new-bill-requiring-gun-owners-have-insurance-0
It passed in San Jose and now they want it to be statewide.
The First Lite Sawtooth has insulation on the chest, shoulders and partially down the outside of the arms. The back and inside of the arms is a heavy merino wool. Neat idea but the insulated part doesn’t stretch and the merino does, it’s an odd fit that is kinda binding when moving your arms. It...
This year was my first time going gutless, all animals before were gutted. I pulled the trigger at 8:10 and was back to the truck at 11:24. So considering the after the shot wait, couple of photos, drag to a cool shaded spot and the time sorting everything out ( knife, game bags, pack prep for...
I posted this in the 2022 mule deer meat pole thread and am now posting it in the blacktail thread. California D3-5 opening morning rifle season. I am quoting WeiserBucks quote of my original post because I cannot figure out how to post anything other than a sideways photo. He was kind enough to...
