Going solo on first out of state hunt
Ashley creek gorge has some good country to look at if there’s good snow on the ground . Or 7k to the top of Taylor peak if the weather hasn’t showed up -

62 lbs with everything I need for 7 days comfortably 54 lbs if I wanna be slightly hungry and less comfortable -

Idaho Mule Deer/Elk Hunt

Which to shoot first?
Elk. The muley will stop and look back. The elk will run over every tree until he’s gone forever -
Mule deer neck shots?
Shot a muley last year at 400 with only the neck visible. I had a custom gun with custom reloads, a solid prone rest, and confidence with the gun and how much energy the 180 Berger transfers. Otherwise I wouldn’t have attempted the shot -

Steep country. Seen some good bucks back in there though. Although I stopped seeing bucks when I started seeing goats. 6000’ - 7000’ seemed to be the ticket -
