    Refining Dall Sheep pack list

-I would ditch the Glock and not even think about an AR-10 for a sheep hunt personally, a lightweight bolt action only is my preference. -Synthetic sleeping bags are crap and their life is limited anyway. Quality down bags are not an issue in inclement weather, pack smaller, and I sleep warmer...

Over Priced Things That Shouldn't Be?

Trailers are one I can't seem to understand the pricing of. It's a steel frame with some boards and a damn axle or two. Why are they comparable in price to the machines I want to load on it that have way more going on?

Montana (and other state) hunter orange laws out dated?

Ok, I can change your culpable mental state from intentionally to negligently. Plus, "I will always wear orange" is not a firearms safety rule, so there's that. Below are the four firearms safety rules. Different agencies and organizations have slightly different wording, but the concept is...

Montana (and other state) hunter orange laws out dated?

Dang, you say those who don't wear orange are dumb but openly admit to intentionally violating a firearms safety rule afield. Interesting. You're good at proving that point about trusting fellow man too much.

Montana (and other state) hunter orange laws out dated?

I can agree with hat only, but past that, I think it should be up to the individual to assess the risk and make the decision on their own, and the government can keep their dicks out of people's Kool-Aid. I always abide by applicable hunting regs, but sometimes I get the feeling orange laws are...

6.5 PRC: Fierce Rogue Carbon 20" vs. Seekins Havak Element 21"

I used to own an element in 6.5 PRC and it wore an AB Raptor 8 stack. It was a great rifle that shot damn good and was light. My only two complaints are that I didn't love the stock, and you can not ejection port load rounds at all as the bullet will hit the back of the breach face if you don't...

    Delta junction Alaska

If you can push your timeline to late July - early August when the berries are in, spot and stalk in the mountains would be great. Last August I spotted 9 blacks and 1 grizz and every one of them were stalkable. I won't say where exactly, but it was in the Alaska range above tree line. In June...

130 Grain Class 6.5 Creedmoor Bullets

124gr Hammer Hunters and 127gr LRX have been great in 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 PRC all the way up to moose for me.

    Seekins Havak Element LOP fix

Looks better than factory in my opinion.

Four Wheele for the Mountains Considerations

In my opinion, once you load a single atv with two people plus gear, you're going to wonder where the hell you can put dead animals, quartered or otherwise, and it won't be a fun ride. If you're set on two people and one machine, I would suggest a Can-Am Outlander 6x6. It has two dedicated seats...

    Barnes Quality Control

I stopped buying Barnes when they started having some QC issues regarding the tips being seated off center and not all the way down, as well as some imperfections on the bullet base. I noticed these issue in .264 127gr LRX, .284 145gr LRX, and .338 250gr LRX. They did replace a box of the 145gr...

What has actually quit on you in the field?

-Montana Rifle co. X3 failure to extract after shooting a moose. Chamber issue that didn't appear prior is the best I could figure. Terrible customer service. -Leupold VX-3 lost zero causing me to miss a nice ram multiple times. Confirmed loss of zero after. -Cooper M92 mag latch failure on...

The cartridge for the next 30 years….

If I could only have one rifle/cartridge to suit all of my needs, which is a ridiculous thought, I think I would lean towards a .338 win mag in a M70, given I live in Alaska. If for some weird reason I moved back to the lesser 48, I'd lean towards a 7 rem mag with a correctly throated and...

Recommend a Turret Press rcbs or dillon? Others?

Are you meaning progressive or turret? If progressive, Dillon is a great choice. The closest they make to a turret is the 550 to my knowledge. For a turret press, give the Redding T7 a look. With an added slide bar priming system it's great.

    Confused on kuiu sizing

I like Kuiu stuff, but their sizing consistency is crazy. I can buy multiple pairs of pants in the same size and every single one of them fit differently in the waist, even within the same model of pant.

    Reload or factory ammo?

I started reloading because I couldn't find a particular factory offering I wanted for a hunt. Now, I really enjoy the entire process of reloading so that's a large part of the reason for me. I also like the ability to tune the consistency, accuracy, and velocity for my uses, plus using the...

    9mm home defense

I'm more of a suppressed rifle for house work kind of person. I also don't get wrapped up in the over penetration fear either for several reasons. That said, for 9mm pistols I keep 90gr Lehigh xtreme defense loaded for edc and the parts of the house I don't have a rifle staged in.

    Kid on an Extended Hunt

Comfort is key. Make sure the kiddo has comfortable boots and decent gear. Keep him warm, dry, fed and don't push him like you would without a kid. My now 8 year old daughter has been doing extended hunts since she was 2 and it has lowered success rates a bit, but the memories are worth it.

    Bear weight, thoughts

I'm no help with the weight estimate. I personally don't understand why guys get so hung up on a bear's weight, especially considering how drastic a bear's weight can vary depending on time of year. I'd rather shoot a P&Y bear that weighs less in the spring then a mediocre bear that weighs more...

Canoe vs Kayaks for Fishing/General Use

I definitely prefer a properly setup kayak for fishing over a canoe. Other than that, a canoe is more useful as it can carry more gear, decoys, dead animals, people, higher weight limits, etc.
