No experience with the Anaris, but I have used a tarptent stratospire 2 li which is another trekking pole tent. While it was nice and light I did worry about it's stormworthiness above tree line.
I've used an Akto for a lot of years. I had to sit out a storm for 2 days a couple of seasons...
Used a Nallo 2 GT for a couple of years with the one outfit I guided for and also have an Anjan 3 GT for when I bring the girlfriend and the dog along in the summer months. Loved the Nallo. Easy to pitch although it did require a bit more real estate than some of my other tents. Shitty...
Amazon.ca has the Anker panel in stock, not sure what their policy is on shipping south of the 49th. Otherwise I've heard some good things about the Big Blue 28w panel although it is a little heavier. I use an Anker panel when guiding, but if it's a hunt less than a week I just bring a battery...
Guided a hunter up here in the Yukon who was shooting almost the exact same load. Shot his grizzly at just over 300 yards, bear spun around and ran 12 yards before piling up dead. Bullet placement was just behind the right shoulder, took out the top of the heart before exiting through the left...
Had good results loading for a friends 7 saum with N560, 7828ssc and reloder 26. With 175 gr bergers we were right around 2900 fps out of a 24 inch barrel with all 3 powders, N560 produced the best groups.
I really like the GT vestibule. After getting weathered in with a tent that has it you don't really want to go back. With the Nallo I never felt like I had to worry about it getting flattened by wind or snow load. I have no experience with the Nammatj, although the people I know that have...
I've used both an Allak and a Nallo 2GT at about the same time of year and same latitude as you'll be in the NWT, just over in the Yukon. I wouldn't be worried with any of the hilleberg's you listed. I didn't have any trouble finding sites to pitch the Nallo, and it weathered some pretty good...
I would think you will be fine with your quilt. Last year I was hunting in the Pelly's (south of Faro and Ross River) in mid-August and was quite comfortable using my WM alpinlite (same temperature rating as your quilt). I didn't find it cold enough to really climb into the bag and just slept...
I've run a number of Hilleberg's between guiding and field work (Enan, Akto, Soulo, Niak, Anjan 2 GT, Nallo 2 GT, and Allak). For solo hunting I would consider the akto or the niak, possibly the anaris although I have no experience with the anaris. In my experience the akto vents better than...
Having ran both, there will be a difference in fuel savings over 7-8 days with the windmaster. However I don't think the windmaster would make it 7-8 days on a 4 oz can. Over 10 days I have noticed that I save weight with the windmaster over a BRS, and I've made it 10 days on an 8 oz can with...
Early August I wouldn't sweat using a yellow label. The Niak is one of my favourite tents. When my girlfriend tags along hunting we take our Anjan 2 gt. I have weathered some serious storms in both of those tents. I also used to own an Allak, and I've used a Nallo 2 gt. The Allak was more...
I owned a Soulo in the past, ended up selling it and replacing with a Niak. I didn't mind carrying the Soulo when I was guiding and needed a tent that I didn't have to worry about folding...or sharing if a clients tent got shredded. They're heavy for a one person tent, but I don't think I've...
I'd say that time of year up here your best bets are either the akto or the kuiu mountain star. I got stuck in my akto in the Pelly's last year for a couple of days around the same time of year and it shrugged off the weather like a champ, but isn't the most spacious.
I'm sure you will still love the alpinlite, they are great bags and there should be enough room to sleep on some sort of diagonal to make it work. I was a little worried, I just sent mine back to get repaired. Woke up one morning looking like I raped a goose, found a hole in the draft collar...
I went with the long, I sleep stretched out and my feet were pressed against the bottom of the foot box when I tried the regular length. Kinda wish they made a 6 ft 3 bag.
