We got back from Mobridge, SD two weeks ago. Very dry and 90% of the walk in areas were just pasture which was grazed to the dirt. Very little cover. The only success we had was in little fingers off the Missouri river which were all dry and filled with weeds because the river was so low. When...
I've spent a lot of time training my shorthair pup. Her first season we just couldn't pin down any wild birds here in Eastern Iowa but this year we went to South Dakota and she killed it. We left there and arrived home just in time for Iowa's opener. Yesterday she got me my first Iowa rooster...
You could do a semi guided hunt. Have them put you in good areas. I would use an outfitter if Money was no object, at least until I learn what I'm doing. I'm doing $1000+ DIY trips each year...and they are really expensive learning experiences....I might skip a year or two and save for an outfitter.
I got a box of those Rios 6 shot. The only other thing was Kent fast steel but it's 7 shot....it had a scene of a pointer and a pheasant on the box so they clearly market it towards pheasant but a #7 STEEL shot seems WAY too light for wild pheasant. What do y'all think? I need some nontoxic...
Pheasant season is in two weeks now, still not much out there. I picked up a box of #6 and haven't seen anything else suitable for pheasant since... especially nothing nontoxic that's not a 3 1/2 inch goose load
I really like the Orvis PRO LT strap vest. I wish it had a pouch for a water bladder, though, as I would like to have bottles for my dogs and a hydration bladder for myself. The Orvis is the best I can find for the price but I may also be interested in other strap vests.
This is so annoying. All I can find is #8,7 1/2 shot for skeet or #2 steel 3inch for ducks. NOTHING geared towards upland. I found two boxes of lead #5 and bought immediately. I haven't seen anything like that since. I have four boxes (2-7 1/2 and 2-#5),and that doesn't even get me through the...
I ran cross county (5k), in high school. I agree with the above suggesting intervals. Start off doing 15/30sec sprint hard for 15 seconds then recover with a 30 jog, then sprint, then jog, etc. move to a 30sec/60sec ratio, then a 60/120second ratio as he progresses. Intervals will help far far...
I went to the range and, yes, my zero was a little low. With that fixed, my data is lining up a lot closer now. I think I used a target that was too large and added to much room for saying that the group is "centered" when in reality it is slightly low. This time I used the smallest center dot...
Yeah, I had .9 100 yard zero, 2.3 inches at 300, and 4 inches at 600 all on paper. Each a 3 round group. I'm good enough at pulling a trigger but don't know anything about the science and math...kind of like a trained monkey haha. I thought my zero was right on but I don't have that target to...
Its a 270win 150gr Nosler ABLR. My wife's grandpa helped me load them, I dont have the exact load with me. My 100 yard zero is solid and I doubt there is a downdraft issue for me...Eastern Iowa doesn't have the terrain for that haha. My scop is an Athlon Midas Tac.
