I couldn't care less what people shoot but this podcast was great. The fudd lore was deep and for some reason 223's piss him off.
From what I gathered:
Only mono metals will kill elk
You need authority
Rutting bulls are armor plated
Moose shoulders are 6x thicker than deer
Small cal shooters...
The authority on big game hunting has spoken and he's not happy with the small caliber trend. So, listen up to JVB and put those .223's and 6mm's back in the safe. His latest podcast says so.
I shoot Bergers out of another rifle but the eldm shoots so well out of the 223 and is killer at killing. I have a pile of 77tmk's too that I'm going to load up but that 73 eldm is a great bullet.
My 223 is a 400ish yard hunting rifle so I don't need to dial. I also wanted a lighter scope with a smaller bell so I could get my scope lower. When I bring the rifle to my shoulder my eye lines up with the scope. I have a rail in another rifle but not this one.

100ish yards on an broadside antelope, went about 20 yards.
320 yards on an frontal elk, went a couple feet.
50ish yards on a broadside whitetail, went 40 wobbly yards.
Running the UM ultra lows with a Trijicon credo 3-9x40. They seem very well built and I like the direct mount to the rifle. With the ultra lows you don't have a ton of room to move the scope back and forth. It took a bit to find the sweet spot but it's just about perfect. I haven't tried the...
In the past I had a 4-16 and also a 2.5-20. Don't think I ever used above 10. Furthest shot was 410 yards. Running a 3-9 now and never used above 6x this year. Longest shot this year was 320 yards. Shortest was 50 yards. Doubt I'll ever buy another scope that goes above 9x. Just not needed for...
This has been a great thread. Both my girls started out with cricket .22lr's and still shoot them. I bought a Weatherby Vanguard .243 in a youth model for them a couple years ago and now it's at the smith getting threaded. If I knew then what I know now I would have gotten a tikka .223 but I...
Maybe a bit early but who's going and is Robbie doing a seminar?
We booked our hotel room last year and my wife kept an eye on prices and eventually got us a good deal.
For those that haven't gone, it makes a great family mini vacation in the middle of the winter. The mall close by is great...
