Started August 25th and will hunt every evening and weekend until I fold my tag, then onto my wife’s. The joys of living 15 minutes from my hunting spot
I’ve had both and still own 2 tikkas. For me tikkas just feel right, not that the brownings feel bad or shoot bad, they just don’t feel as good as the tikkas. Plus the aftermarket support for tikka is great as well.
I'm not sure what the problem was. Like i said, probably the easiest bullet I've ever developed a load for, just wasn't impressed with the killing ability. If it was just the elk I shot maybe I'd say keep them above 2200fps and they might work, but I shot my moose with them also and he was at...
Yeah I was a little shocked myself. Accuracy wise they were probably the easiest bullet I’ve ever worked up loads for, just wasn’t impressed with how they killed. There was a dead animals at the end every time so they did do the job, just not quite as quick as I’m use to and the no blood was...
I didn’t, I use to shoot a lot of all copper bullets but was never a fan of the way they killed. Sometimes you would get quick kills but for the most part they would be on their feet for longer than I liked so I don’t even try them anymore.
If you’re interested in copper, I hear Barnes is...
I came from a VX5HD as well and my fierce was bought as a package that came with a VX5 on it as well. I sold the VX5 and had enough left over to buy the credo and a couple boxes of ammo.
I understand all the hate fierce receives, their customer service seems terrible and if this gun wasn’t shot...
That’s what I did, bought a box of everything I could find. Both hornady loads I tried grouped well, the federal just grouped better.
I also tried the nosler 175gr ablr and those had good speed but terrible groups, averaged over 2.3moa for my best group
I used hammers for one season, they shot great but the elk I shot went almost 250 yards without a drop of blood anywhere in the snow. Luckily it was a lone cow so following her wasn’t hard. Not sure how well it would have went tracking her through the bush with no blood and no snow.
The 7-08...
I’ve shot both, Hornady was slower avg 2776 fps with a higher ES mid 50s if I recall, groups were good though. Federal avg 2883 fps with ES in the low 30s and groups .5-75 moa.
Either would do, but I’ll take the better groups which just so happens to be faster as well
Federal seems to be killing it with their 7prc offerings, the 175 eld-x shoots lights out in my fierce and avg 107fps faster than Hornady.
How are you liking the Trijicon? I have the same scope on my 7PRC with roughly 300 rounds on it and I’ve been impressed so far.
I was in the same boat you're in right now. After looking through and handling them I went with the credo HX. Really enjoy the center dot, turrets are great, eye box is good up to 15x and the extra mounting area was nice to have. Not a huge test but I've put about 300 rounds through it in the...
Holy f@ck this went to hell in a hurry. I use blue loctite because it works and gives peace of mind that the screws won’t one loose.
Don’t use loctite, won’t hurt my feelings, but if I can lower the chances of something going wrong I will.
finally got out to try the federal 175 eldx today
Fierce Carbon Rogue 22”
2883 fps avg
.662 MOA 4 shot group then adjusted the scope and fired one more at dot.
Shot out to 700 to confirm and so far really liking these federals.
Nosler 175gr ABLR on the other hand have been terrible, roughly...
Not sure if anyone else has tried the nosler but my gun hated it, was out again today to do some more shooting and picked a box up to try. Hornady eldm averaged 2797 fps with a .736 moa 5 shot group and the Nosler while quite a bit faster at 2938 fps averaged a 4.08 moa 5 shot group.
I was expecting a little more speed wise as well and your velocities are right around mine, Average 2775 with the factory precision hunter and 2802 with factory 180 eld-m
