Thanks for all of the input. I guess I should have stated that all of my whitetail hunting is archery only. So the noise of the hard shell is definitely a factor. I hunt 95% public land and mostly from the ground so quiet gear is super important. That being said, I typically don't get too wound...
Thanks for the insight!
I wear a merino beanie anytime temps are below 40. Merino or fleeze neck gaitor depending on the temps.
I have some merino base layers and do utilize them any time I don't have periods of high activity before the sit. I had read somewhere, on here actually, that wool...
Is there one out there or is it wishful thinking???
I'm not a fan of heavy, parka style coats. Because of that, I own more layers than I probably should. And I'm pretty happy with the system I've come up with, so far.
I live in Missouri and hunt year round. I run a trapline in the fall/winter...
I'm also in Missouri and I finally landed on owning two pairs of boots. I wear my Crispis around here when hiking or getting into some of our rockier terrain. But the sole kills my feet if I put on multiple miles on flat ground.
I have a pair of Irish Setters that I absolutely love. I'm on my...
I wear a Drake MST layering vest a lot. It's fleece but also has a wind blocker. I can wear it as an outer layer or under my jacket. I think having a wind blocker closer to your body really seems to help. You can usually pick them up this time of year for $50.
I use a Jetstream for the same thing. I went a size up so it didnt fit screaming tight. Does an awesome job blocking the wind and can handle a little weather too. And one size up doesn't make it too big to wear in warmer temps over light base layers.
I'll second the O'Gorman book. Cletis Richards put out quite possibly the most well-made DVD I've seen, I believe its Called Coyotes in Agriculture. Something to that effect.
There are 1000 ways to do, like you said, everyone is different. Being where the coyotes are is #1. Youtube has some...
I just bought some heavy weight, fleece baselayers from 32 degrees (i think thats the name of it). A mock turtle neck top and bottoms. They aren't fancy, no pockets etc but I paid $10 all together (their stuff is 75% off right now) and they fit the bill: WARM and Comfortable. I can wear a real...
I took advantage of the Gravy Boat sale to try a couple things I'd been going back and forth on....and I am impressed. Im a bit of gear head and own more gloves than any one person should; however, I've never really LOVED any of them. (Disclaimer: part of that is having smaller hands (female) so...
I just encountered this for my first time, here in Missouri. Onx showed the land was public access but like you, I am wary of believing it 100%, especially with conflicting situations. I erred on the side of caution and when I returned home, I looked up the parcel in the current county assessor...
I've been on the hunt for a quality mid-season pant for myself, as well. I love my First Lite Kanab 2.0s and they do okay with a light to medium baselayer down to about 45 degrees if you're sitting. If I stay moving, they work down to 30 degrees. They are a mens pant so I don't exactly love the...
I harvested my first Missouri whitetail when I was 11 years old...for the next 20 years, I dedicated a large portion of my life to chasing these critters. I'd consider myself a successful hunter, filling the freezer for many years and hanging a few memorable racks on the wall; however, Halloween...
I have one 60 acre property that I'm fortunate to have permission to hunt in Central MO. Like everyone else has said, there are variables, mostly due to pressure that seem to affect results but it seems as though I will get 2-3 shooter quality bucks on camera/sightings every year. This is the...
