    CO tag release date??

A lot of people got the antelope tags and deer tags confused, no deer tags have been issued yet.

    School me on Alaska caribou/moose

Don’t misconstrue hunting elk in Colorado with hunting moose in Alaska. Your not going to hike 8-10 miles and pack out a moose, seriously. I’ve killed a bunch of bulls and being able to use river boats, four wheelers, meat trailers or all 3 at the same time makes moose hunts doable. You can’t...

    2020-24 season structure options

The fact that Colorado OTC is everyone’s fall back Plan is clearly a problem. It doesn’t matter if the population of Colorado elk is 2 million, if the ever growing number of hunters in the woods just pushes all the elk to locations most can’t get to them ie....the steepest nastiest of terrain or...

great over the counter units in Idaho? help?

Same shit different day, truck loads of guys from all parts of the country logging on here for the first time and asking where to go hunt out west. It’s almost comical.

The Current state of Elk Hunting

Oh the irony. An internet hunting forum where 2\3 of the members aren't from western states discussing why elk hunting in the western states is going to chit. Forums like this one have nothing to do with it?

    Durango Elk

Pretty well sums it up. I couldn’t believe that so many guys I met after moving here only buy pref points for elk in Colorado and then go hunt in Montana or WY. The consensus was worded exactly like you summarized it above, “OTC is a complete shit show”. One year of the shit show was enough for...

    Durango Elk

This is absolutely true! I drew a tag last year for muzzleloader season and I made 3 separate multi day trips into the unit to become familiar with it and even took an amazing pic of a 350+ bull during one of my scouting trips. However when I arrived the day before ML season opened the hoardes...

Odds of a NR harvesting elk on public land stats.....

I think the 2% mentioned above is more accurate than any other percentage. Guys have to understand that when it says 15% success in a unit that’s not just guys hiking in from trail heads bow in hand, that number also includes all the outfitted and guided hunts where guys are generally more...

Best Buy on Cushy Truck Camping Mat

Well the Megamat came in and man is that thing plush! I’ve never laid on a more comfortable pad, the fact that it also, has a R value of 9 doesn’t hurt!

Best Buy on Cushy Truck Camping Mat

I considered the memory foam route but a buddy told me he made the mistake of using one in cold temperatures during last years elk hunt and he said the cold reaked havoc on it. It got really cold and hard and had no squish to it, the thing stayed contorted to his body and wouldn’t uncontort. He...

Best Buy on Cushy Truck Camping Mat

I have a lot of experience with lightweight backpacking pads but never have really bought a truck camping pad. I built a sleeping platform in the back of my truck under a cap for fishing and short hunting trips and am looking for a reliable comfy pad with some insulation. Really close to pulling...

    Crispi Lacing.... issue?

I recently got a pair of the Thor’s and while the boot is very comfortable and fits well, I don’t know WTH crispi was thinking when they came up with the lacing system. That loops at the ankle is just plain retarded, you cinch up the area on top of your foot and then you can’t continue lacing...

    Switching from the Xtherm

I laid on a lot of pads today at REI and the one tha was most comfortable was the BA Insulated Q-Core Deluxe, man that thing was so much more comfortable than my Xtherm. Only like 3-4 oz penalty.

Luxe hiking gear hexpeak tipi review

I’ve had a couple SO shelters but won’t pony up the money Kifaru asks for their shelters. Initial impressions are that the quality is on par with the SO shelters I’ve owned but I haven’t used them yet so take it for what it’s worth. I will say I was impressed that the Luxe come with corded...

Luxe hiking gear hexpeak tipi review

I picked up an Octopeak with stove jack for a larger camp with stove and a hex peak for solo ventures. Looking forward to running them this year. They seem to be very well made.

    Colorado unit 76

Spent 3 days scouting in 76 last year with a guy that drew a tag for 1st rifle. Trying to find areas without deadfall will be tough. Beetle kill is rampant in 76. If I were hunting it I would line out a packer for sure. There are good trail systems in the Weminuche and they go way back in there...

    GMU 75

I don’t get why so many Texans Hunt 74 and 75, it’s 500 miles from Amarillo to Durango basically the same distance as Amarillo to Vail, you’d think they’d figure out there are units that hold larger numbers of elk than 74 and 75 do.
