The foundry has a much more rigid waist area and the timberline is stretchier. The timberline fit me a lot better overall with a pack on but this is body/size specific.
The foundry has side zips which are great but otherwise I think the timberlines are near perfection from a mid to late season...
A few observations:
The entire outdoor industry is experiencing some whiplash post covid shortages. Lots of decisions made 2 years ago in order quantity are just now hitting shelves. Demand was booming and the sky seemed to be the limit and now it’s fallen down. Most things are in stock and...
For what it’s worth Iowa, Kansas and Illinois are held up as the top tier whitetail states to hunt because of trophy potential and relatively tight tag allocations. Unsurprisingly none of these states have rut rifle hunts. These usually take a few years to get a tag depending on the season and...
Are you looking to hunt specific terrain because all states you mentioned are vastly different in their Eastern quarters than their western sides. They are all more timbered and midwestern/ozark areas on the eastern sides and they transition to be much more western spot and stalk in their middle...
If you are involved in state level wildlife politics at all you know there are usually plenty of stupid proposals, bill, etc that get announced each year and most never go anywhere. This is where a nuanced understanding of the players involved and their clout and where they are in the process...
The 147 gr is fine in a 6.5 CM, I think both the 140
And 147 loads publish velocity at 2700 fps. The minimum velocity on that bullet to get opening is around 1800 fps. Even starting at 2600 fps that bullet will hold 1800 fps to 675 yards with that BC and design.
The 147 is great but...
Isn’t the entire point of the creedmoor series to have a saami spec chamber to run as heavy and long of bullets as possible. If so why spec it even longer like it’s a 1960’s designed round you are hot rodding to run modern heavies?
My son has the vortex bantam and they are shockingly good for the money. They aren’t alpha glass but they are way better than the 10x25 tasco’s we had as kids.
A 6.5 creedmoor and LRX are good expanding to ~2000 fps which gets you to 450 yards with the factory load. I’ve killed deer dead right there with the LRX and 6.5 CM to 425 yards. Even with a 2200 fps minimum opening velocity you are good to 325 yards or so.
In your application what bullet you...
I’d really like MK machine to make a throw level for the RS1.2. The one maven sells currently is too big and rather ugly. I really like MK machine throw levers on scopes without an integral one.
The Aadmount scope caps are very good and that is what maven sells.
The TSX is a horribly dated design and is probably the worst common mono as far as expansion besides the Hornady GMX. The TSX has been improved twice with the TTSX (Tipped TSX) and LRX.
If you want to shoot a factory loaded Mono the 127 LRX is the top of the heap by far.
I used to think small game was a logical progression but having been involved with a lot of adult onset hunters I don’t think that is the case. Quite frankly small game and upland hunting opportunities are pretty poor in many parts of the country and the skills don’t necessarily translate. Going...
I would put a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 on the fieldcraft and use it for all hunting. 6.5 creedmoor is enough for elk to 500 yards.
Have you carried that 28 Nosler for elk yet? That seems like the great idea until you carry it kind of rifle. I’d sell the rifle and put that scope on a 6mm target...
I just have an old 3 piece aluminum cleaning rod for clearing barrel obstructions that lives under the foam of a hard case. A little bit of lubrication that won’t leak everywhere or gun medic is all I really worry about having around.
A steep shot at 400 yards is a difficult shot regardless of if the dope and zero is perfect. I know it our first instinct to blame equipment but humans fail at a much higher rate than machines.
I don’t like that Tikkas aren’t Sako’s. I miss the safe bolt lock override and cartridge specific action sizing. I don’t trust myself with Tikka’s extensive aftermarket, I’ll spend too much money……
A sporting clays vest works pretty well with dump pockets full of shells. I use a neoprene shell belt for waterfowl and it’s not as fast as a sporting clays vest.
