There always a risk outdoors. You have the right mind set. What is most relevant is where your tent is located. I wouldn't worry about metal. Most think metal attracts lighting and that's a myth.
Thanks. I only plan to use the bivy when needed. i.e. An unexpected snow storm or caught out in a bad storm or I just cant get warm.
Are you putting down Tyvek under the your pad? or in the SO shelter?
So far here is what I'm thinking,
Quilt- So I got a quote for a El Coyote quilt. I think I will head that direction for the quilt.
Pad- I'm going to upgrade my R-value with a Xtherm pad.
Shelter- I'm thinking the Guardian or Cimarron SO shelter with a stove jack.
Bivy- I'm thinking OR bivy...
Thanks for the feedback. I based my pack size off what I thought was reasonable for a 3-6 day hunt, and also if I wanted use it as a day pack. I did several weighted rucks with it to ensure comfortably and to familiarize my self with it. So I had a KUIU 5900 icon and sold it soon as I got back...
I actually did a search on this forum after I wrote that. He's a rokslider and I'll be dammed he's been a member for 12 years. Blown away haha. I been telling all my buddies about him and his YT channel. He's more known than I thought. I found his YT watching some of my other hunting shows.
Meat-eater is okay but...check out a cat named Billy Molls. I've never heard of him until a month ago. He's a guide up in Alaska and release about two decades of hunting footage.
Update. Man, it was best decision I made. My legs were awesome in the mountains this year. First hike was 6 miles in with a 50-60lb pack. No soreness. Feet were a little achy with the weight. I did do several rucks to break in boots prior but I'm guessing my feet are not used the weight on them...
If you think shingles hurt, try racking yourself pole-vaulting. I don't think there any more unbearable pain than that. I'd rather have shingles and a toothache at the same time. That happened over 20 years ago tooo. Stomach still knots up when thinking about it. I have two kids so my theory...
So on the pack I didn't mention I own a 4800 Exo Mountain /w their K3 frame with a lid. So I actually have around 5200+CU. Honestly I don't want one too much bigger. My direction now is to cut weight and bulk size with my sleep system and my goal will be reached.
