I will be hunting in an area prone to winter thunderstorms this fall, they usually occur right before a snow storm and are fairly violent. Ive usually camped in a single person tent that is low to the ground and I always try to have trees that are higher than my tent in the general area. This year I am using a hot tent, mostly for comfort but was also about the same weight as carrying two tents in for the hunting partner and I. I didnt think about this until recently but the teepee has an aluminum pole and of course the stovepipe. Any experience with this from the group? I could always remove the stovepipe but the pole is always going to be there.

There always a risk outdoors. You have the right mind set. What is most relevant is where your tent is located. I wouldn't worry about metal. Most think metal attracts lighting and that's a myth.
