I don’t have anything against 6mm, i hunt with my .243 the majority of the time. I’m just looking to fill a void in my caliber range that I can use for deer and possibly elk and still be kid friendly. I see tons of people recommending the 7-08 and 6.5 for kids, so I’m just trying to get a feel...
What is recoil like between the 2? I’ve shot a 7mm-08 a few times, but have never fired a 6.5 cm. I’m not the best at judging recoil because I’m not a small guy. I can just remember the 7mm-08 as being a snappy recoil.
Im not looking for a .243 or similar caliber. I’m looking for the 120-140 grain range offerings that comes in a lightweight platform that me and my children can both shoot. From the input I’m stuck between 6.5cm and 7-08.
My dad has a 7-08 shooting factory 139gr interlocks. It’s a hammer on whitetail and it broke a shoulder in half on mature mule deer buck. I’ve always been impressed with it. That’s why i was leaning toward it, but there’s just so many more options with the 6.5 cm
I’m not a reloader, I’m a factory ammo guy. Once again I’m looking for a medium bore caliber, i have a 350 legend, 30-30, and a .243. I’m wanting to fill that 120-140gr range but want flexibility between my use and kids use.
It’s not just for the kids, it’ll be a gun i use also. I already have a .243 so there’s no reason to go smaller. I’m trying to fill that gap between the 56-100gr 6mm and 150-180gr 30 cal. I like the thought of having a lightweight gun that the kids can get behind, and i can carry for hunts. The...
So I’m kicking the idea around for a new rifle. I’m leaning toward a lightweight easy to carry platform, mainly for fun and i have kids getting close to the hunting age. I already have a .243 and a 30-06 so I’m looking for that medium bore area. 6.5, 270, or 7mm. The purpose of said rifle will...
awesome! Used have one of those in my military days. My favorite fleece is a natural gear fleece Henley. It’s discontinued now but natural gear nailed that garment. No zippers and minimal seems, big heavy duty stitched buttons, tight fabric that’s soft and warm, durability that’s out of this...
I have a pair of Cabelas brand Meindl lite hunters i believe. Bought them in 2017 and have put a bunch of miles on them hunting whitetail, Turkey, mule deer, and elk. They’re starting to lose ankle support, or my ankles are getting weaker. They’re still comfortable and waterproof though. I also...
I’ve eye balled the iron wills and the cutthroat single bevel broadheads, but i can’t get myself to pay what they are asking. The issue i have here in the ozarks, when an arrow passes through a deer, there’s nothing to stop it but rocky ground. I’ve broken many broadheads on pass through shots...
Not my only .243 kill but a big sow hog from previous fall in Arkansas. 95gr SST at 20 some odd yards. Second picture you can see the exit when we were quartering it up for the cooler. Definitely impressed that the SST exited at max velocity on a thick hog, but it went though a rib in and a rib...
It’s the second most popular cartridge right now behind the .308. I think what you’re seeing as falling off the cliff is just the cartridge has lost the new car smell. The 6.5 creedmoor was marketed heavily to push sales and was tremendously successfully. It’s about like a car manufacturer...
Buy a 30-06 if you desire one. There’s no question on the capabilities of the cartridge. In a world that’s fascinated by bullet coefficients and max powder for flat shooting, there’s a ton of traditional cartridges like the 30-06 still hitting the woods and knocking down game. If you want to...
I think that’s mostly from Grandads 30-06 is where that stigma comes from. I won’t deny that the 30-06 has a sharp recoil. You add that sharp recoil with an older rifle that has no butt pad on it and it can fatigue a shoulder quickly. My dad has a Remington 760 30-06, after a few round at the...
I’ve never weighed my pack, but my hunting pack ALWAYS has gloves, neck gaiter, headlamp, pen light, small first aid kit (with lighter), TP, 3 triple A batteries, skinning knife, back up knife (havlon) and a handful of granola bars, hydration bladder, shooting sticks. Not a lot of weight in pack...
You’ll be fine, I’ve killed a few whitetail and a 200lb hog with a .243. I wouldn’t expect 7mag results out of it, but you place a .243 bullet where it belongs and they die in very short order. That’s been my experience anyway.
