OTC Elk Hunt Cost - Guys from the East Coast

I fly out every year. Like others have said, costs will vary, but $1500-$2k is pretty reasonable. If you get an elk figure another $500 to that depending on options. I put this video together a few months back and you may find it helpful.

Food porn to make you forget about WuFlu

It's tough to get it just right. Medium rare on the inside, but crispy skin. One tip, apply seasoning (I like Tony Chachere's after you pull it out off the oven) .

Food porn to make you forget about WuFlu

Some recipes from a wild-game dinner I did in Feb. BTW, I know the reverse sear is the 6.5 creedmoor of cooking.

    Any UFC fans on here?

Sorry to hear that. I've been around the BJJ game for quite a while and I had to look up the bow and arrow choke. I still wonder if your buddy had underlying atherosclerosis or some type of congenital collagen disorder. Odd for a choke to cause that much damage to the carotids, which are usually...

    Any UFC fans on here?

Dang man, if you don't mind me asking what happened to your friend? I've been around the game for a while now and I've seen some serious injuries, but nothing life-threatening. Neck injury?

    Any UFC fans on here?

Really wanted to see that fight. I can see Dana seeing the money signs now, with everyone stuck at home looking to watch McGregor X Khabib #2. I'm nowhere near as interested as I'm to see Ferg vs. Khabib.

    Tiger King

I honestly think this whole thing is a case study in toxoplasmosis and meth. Truth is stranger than fiction. https://jeb.biologists.org/content/216/1/127

    Naked hiker

I prefer to leave my clothes up at camp so they don't get sweaty when I'm hiking. I passed that 6X6 and shot a bigger bull. Sorry for the pics, I'll be more careful where I walk next time.

    Something GOOD due to COVID-19?

I must say I'm happy to see this thread as I'm having the same experiences. My kids are home with my wife (ex teacher). They are quickly finding out that Mom has higher expectations than their teacher. I had a great time playing with them at recess and then before dinner we took a family mile...

Idaho Hunting Fees 2021 Non Resident (Big Elk Increase)

Idahohiker, fair enough. Govt can always use more money. As I stated before, I think IDFG is a good organization, that does a good job of managing the resources. However, I'd like to see the increase in fees tied to some performance metrics (e.g. increase in herd size, hiring of more officers...

Idaho Hunting Fees 2021 Non Resident (Big Elk Increase)

So, the question remains, what is your govt going to do with the extra money generated from the NR fee increases? I'd like to see some tangible outcomes (e.g. maintain XX trailheads, hire XX biologists, etc...) tied to a deadline. As a former fisheries biologist I know those folks don't make...

Idaho Hunting Fees 2021 Non Resident (Big Elk Increase)

I get the need to cover operating costs, but what's going to be the return-on-investment for an XX% increase in NR tag fees? Are IDFG employees getting a XX% raise? Were their operating costs not covered before (e.g. were they running up a debt to pay their employees)? I'm always surprised that...

    Why Solo? Why Not?

What about camping together, but solo hunting. You've got the benefits of safety (someone expects you back at night and knows where you'll be), camaraderie, shared camp chores, but when it comes to hunting you split up and if need be help each other get the elk off the mountain.

    Flatlanders workout

I tried running the first year I went out to ID, but I didn't feel it best prepared me for the mountains. Switched over to the stairmaster and found it much better for preparation. One tip with the stairmaster, once you get close to your hunt, put a pack on your back and have someone choke you...

    Idaho potential nonresident fee increase

I hear you, but given the sudden increase, it might not be a bad time to ask for something in exchange, especially as meaningless as lighted nocks. The wardens can write tickets for having a weapon on a ATV on a closed road, no?

    Idaho potential nonresident fee increase

While I'm not happy about it, I get the NR fee increase. Supply and demand. That being said, the rationale doesn't make sense at all. I don't see how this controls NR in certain units. If they just want more cash for the Dept, I'm okay with that, just be honest about it. In exchange for the...

Tips for flying out on an Elk hunt

Hopefully you can find a butcher that'll freeze your meat for you until you're ready to leave. When we tagged out this year, we went fishing and scouting the last 2 days in camp.

Official 2019 ROKSLIDE FILM CONTEST sponsored by Canyon Coolers

Bummer. I asked about this earlier in the year, but never saw this thread so I didn't think it was going to happen. No worries, my videos were subpar this year. Hard to get a kill shot on film with Idaho not allowing electronics on your bow. I'll go check out the entries.
