The best thing for warmth I have found in cold temps is a super thin liner and a mitten. I've used different liners like merino Sitka liners, etc. I've used this type of combo to -30* ambient and have had zero issues.
It's especially interesting since at least one archer has died recently from a muzzy hunter in Colorado. I don't know if the archer wearing orange would have helped or not.
Colorado requires rifle/muzzleloader hunters to wear orange. But they don’t require the archers hunting the exact same place, at the exact same time, for the exact same species to wear orange.
I’m a big glass guy. I pack a BTX/ATX/95 for deer and elk. All 3 pieces are heavy but worth it to me. I wouldn’t worry at all bear hunting if I only had the small Vortex spotter. I would probably only get it out if I was trying to judge a bear.
Dang sorry to see that.
I think you have until August to get an 80% refund on the kids elk tag in Montana.
If you can swing the deductibles and trailer cost from your savings, I would bet you can get enough free/loaner gear to hunt this year.
I have lots of gear and I’m close to MT...
I don’t have that exact setup. But it sucks trying to use it like that. Which is why a lot of companies are coming out with extended bases to mount on a bolt action.
I've seen good reviews on the SM Wraith. I would actually suggest something like that over a decent thermal because it will cost a lot less and work fine for your application.
Nevada has such a limited resource and they strive for quality hunts. So very few tags are given out. I apply there but dang it always seems like a waste of money.
My 243 easily hit 3000 fps with a 108. There is no way I’m fire forming and messing with an AI to get more velocity.
6 creed, 243, or 6 PRC would be my choices.
Utah has general and you can still apply for the draw.
You can get on a turn back list for Montana general.
There will be turn back tags in Idaho and it’s a race for the tags every other week I believe.
Colorado you can obviously get a turn back or hunt otc.
Washington has otc.
Ha I forget sometimes I’m not typing to buddies.
FP=Foxpro It’s pretty decent for predator hunting. The Eastmans predator pros is also good with Geoff. Geoff went over how he calls bobcats and I like the approach for lions.
