    Best gloves

The best thing for warmth I have found in cold temps is a super thin liner and a mitten. I've used different liners like merino Sitka liners, etc. I've used this type of combo to -30* ambient and have had zero issues.

Montana (and other state) hunter orange laws out dated?

It's especially interesting since at least one archer has died recently from a muzzy hunter in Colorado. I don't know if the archer wearing orange would have helped or not.

    Garmin storage

I think that’s what I’m using. Fits perfectly.

Montana (and other state) hunter orange laws out dated?

It was to point out the inconsistencies.

Montana (and other state) hunter orange laws out dated?

Colorado requires rifle/muzzleloader hunters to wear orange. But they don’t require the archers hunting the exact same place, at the exact same time, for the exact same species to wear orange.

What size spotter for spring bear?

I’m a big glass guy. I pack a BTX/ATX/95 for deer and elk. All 3 pieces are heavy but worth it to me. I wouldn’t worry at all bear hunting if I only had the small Vortex spotter. I would probably only get it out if I was trying to judge a bear.

    Up in smoke

Dang sorry to see that. I think you have until August to get an 80% refund on the kids elk tag in Montana. If you can swing the deductibles and trailer cost from your savings, I would bet you can get enough free/loaner gear to hunt this year. I have lots of gear and I’m close to MT...

Have cancer. Going to Seattle for medical reasons. Fishing? Hiking tidbits?

If you don't mind more of a drive there is great hiking along the crest of the cascades.

Entry level thermal scope for varmints.

I don’t have that exact setup. But it sucks trying to use it like that. Which is why a lot of companies are coming out with extended bases to mount on a bolt action.

Entry level thermal scope for varmints.

I've seen good reviews on the SM Wraith. I would actually suggest something like that over a decent thermal because it will cost a lot less and work fine for your application.

    Nevada draw system

Nevada has such a limited resource and they strive for quality hunts. So very few tags are given out. I apply there but dang it always seems like a waste of money.

    6 prc vs 243AI

My 243 easily hit 3000 fps with a 108. There is no way I’m fire forming and messing with an AI to get more velocity. 6 creed, 243, or 6 PRC would be my choices.

Making sure I understand Kansas Draw odds

That’s how I understand it. It’s a preference state like Colorado.

late in the game for 2024... need some guidance

Utah has general and you can still apply for the draw. You can get on a turn back list for Montana general. There will be turn back tags in Idaho and it’s a race for the tags every other week I believe. Colorado you can obviously get a turn back or hunt otc. Washington has otc.

Ha I forget sometimes I’m not typing to buddies. FP=Foxpro It’s pretty decent for predator hunting. The Eastmans predator pros is also good with Geoff. Geoff went over how he calls bobcats and I like the approach for lions.

Tikka trigger.. how light is too light?

I use an aftermarket spring. I had zero issues using it when it was -20* or even colder.
