Nothing for me or my 2 boys. My youngest and I are getting enough points again for deer that I was wondering.
@vladkgb - It’s been a few years, but I killed a bull with my rifle in 231. That’s cool, good luck.
I’m wanting to do a couple big mule deer scouting trips over the next couple weeks as the high country snow is coming off. Packing my little gun out of habit. I’m similar to you, I’m almost hoping a great big, unique color phase bear doesn’t stand in front of me! I want to do some good hikes...

First half dozen went pretty smooth and steady-paced. My nuts were dragging on sets 9 and 10.
I have a pair of Zodiac Techs (orange ones with the little gaiter) and my youngest son has had 2 pairs. Very comfortable hiking boot. Like hiking around in a good fitting running shoe. I wear them spring, summer and early fall. They are definitely not as thick/tough leather as the beefier...
Ahh, if you’re looking for a later season, but non-insulated boot… the Grand Dru is hard to beat. They will keep you warm until single digits. I have a pair and I wore several pairs of their predecessor boots. I am biased, but Scarpa is where I’d be looking.

One, but nothing to shoot at.
Didn’t get a clear look, but we jumped a wolf on the way down. Tracks are actually in the ridgeline pic of the peak.
Kind of interesting how many nonresident hunters are cruising the roads.
I’ve been a part of 4 successful goat hunts in that unit (2007, 2008, 2009, 2015). Here are a few thoughts…
I would recommend hunting 9/25 - 10/5. Play the weather.
In my experience, 9-10 days will be plenty.
I would not go in for an extended period of time into 1 spot. Scout, and then have a...
Wife turned a year older the other day so today we tried a route that we knew would be a bit of an adventure to see if she still had it.
10.5mi (9 on snowshoes) and 2200ft. Several of the snowshoe miles were tough. Made it to our glassing spot though.
Then I found about a 30 inch fir on the way...
The youngest and I headed out early. Climbed just a hair under 2000ft to a glassing spot. Plenty of rockslides, brush and ticks… no bear. Took a different ridge down. Barely over 3mi., basically straight up and down.
@mtwarden would be turning the AC on. 83 today, supposed to hit 87 tomorrow...
The entire point of going with an Outfitter with a general tag in MT is to get access to landlocked USFS ground via private… Snowies, Crazy’s, Big and Little Belts.
If you go to the Bitterroot, you’ll park at the exact same trailhead or gated road as every other guy from Missoula and Ravalli...

You think it would be easy to update the portal? Seriously? Remember all of us that drew sheep tags last year! Oops, I mean, no we didn’t. Remember all the nonresidents that drew elk the year before? Oops, no they didn’t.
I DO NOT think the site can be easily...
Ohhh. Your naivety is cute. You think it would be simple for MTFWP to amend the contract with the company that designed their shitty online portal? Adding a questionnaire like you propose… easily a 3.2 million dollar contract modification.
In all seriousness… Again, we harped on this at our...
