You ever get this gun put together? What barrel did you go with and what kind of velocities are you seeing?

6.5 PRC for Elk - A colorful chart.

First off, I need a brother like you. Second, I’m not shooting anything at that distance.

6.5 PRC for Elk - A colorful chart.

The ELDX choice was just an easy way to compare apples to apples. All of these cartridges were offered with factory ELDX loads with listed factory muzzle velocities to compare each other with. If I started mixing bullets, the objections would have been endless.

6.5 PRC for Elk - A colorful chart.

I started bow hunting later in life and only recently started rifle hunting. I am building a semi-custom Tikka for mule deer and occasionally elk. My sample size of shooting big game is small, so I consumed a lot of information when deciding what cartridge to chamber my rifle in. I initially...

Dilemma: Semi custom Tikka build on budget vs. 7PRC factory rifle. UPDATED: Decision Made and Build Complete

Ask away. Or you can PM me. However, I’m not sure I’m the best person to be answering your questions as this is my first attempt at this. But the nice thing about this place is that others with way more experience are sure to chime in.

Dilemma: Semi custom Tikka build on budget vs. 7PRC factory rifle. UPDATED: Decision Made and Build Complete

Welcome. This forum is a great place to soak up information. So, I sold my Tikka. Then after after hours (days) on Rokslide, I decided to build a semi-custom Tikka. I decided on 6.5 PRC after reading and buying into the shift to lighter calibers. I used the holiday sales to stretch my...

    Old dudes and old photos.

This thread is awesome. My hunting buddy and I have made it a goal to shoot a deer during rifle season with plaid shirts on just to pay homage to the bad asses that came before us. All of you with a long line of hunters in your family make me a little jealous. I bumbled my way into hunting...

    Muzzle Break or Suppressor?

Most of us waited 9 months for a kid. Suppressors are quieter and cheaper.

Havester Evo is a no go - discontinued - Moved to a Banish 30

Why do you think it was discontinued? I’m sure the CS representative wouldn’t be forthcoming if it was a design flaw. But it makes me curious because it seems like they were selling well.

    Grid fleece comparison

Outdoor Research Vigor Grid Fleece Hoody. I have an R1 I wear for hunting and skiing and it is a bit better at all things except fit. However, because you can find the OR Vigor on sale, I would say it’s a better value and does 90% of what the R1 will with a better fit.

HYPOTHETICAL - $5,000 replacement budget for hunting rifle(s).

A hypothetical - Tragedy strikes and your house burns down or is broken into and all of your centerfire hunting rifles are burned/stolen. Miraculously, all of your shotguns, pistols and rimfires are untouched. A few months later, your insurance company cuts a check for your loss. Your...

    Custom rifle review thread?

Great idea. Within your review, I would like to see you break down your favorite components into 2 or three different builds that you would recommend at different price ranges (i.e. - a budget build, mid-level and a price is no object build).

    Badger fights to the death.

All of these stories are great. You can’t hunt badgers in WA but that’s okay, I think I would just want to sit and watch the little Joe Pesci‘s of the animal kingdom.

    Badger fights to the death.

I wondered that too. The guy was hunting in an area that is on the edge of Wolverine habitat. Based on the skull size it could have been a wolverine, which are much bigger than badgers and are known to hunt small bears. The wolverines have a sagittal crest on the back of the skull that...
