    Idaho mule deer management strategy

None of the above. I’ve got no problem with how Idaho is doing things. I’d like to see travel management plans expanded, less road access in some places, but that being said there is still a lot of places to escape crowds. No real complaints on my end. If you want better age class but maintain...

Leupold Mark 4 HD 6-24x52…drop test

I’m not a drop testing expert by any means..I’m seeing maybe a .4 moa shift in the group down? Factoring in 10 round group and changing position..i wouldn’t be surprised if your leupy actually held zero. Just eyeballing it looks pretty darn good to me. But I’m pretty set for the season so maybe...

Leupold Mark 4 HD 6-24x52…drop test

Awesome you guys are doing this! I was an early “dropper” of the maven RS 1.2 and when I saw the results I bought two more to avoid the Rokslide buying frenzy 😂 Would love to see that 2.5-10 pass, I am in need of a lightweight scope and regrettably sold my swfa 3-9.

    Altitude sickness

It’s a little more than that, but to your point being in great shape actually confers slightly higher risk of AMS. Probably because guys are more used to/comfortable pushing themselves which accelerates the respiratory alkalosis. In general some folks acid/base balance is just not as quick or...

    Altitude sickness

That podcast goes into the details of elevation gradients, how long it takes to acclimate, etc. worth a listen if you have had it before; having it in the past is the main risk factor for having it again. AMS sucks bad..

    Altitude sickness

There’s not much out there that’s been tested/vetted/proven in a scientific way. Best thing besides prescriptions is slow acclimation. This Rokcast podcast goes into more detail on what’s out there and effective for prevention and treatment...

    The 22 creedmoor thread

Try one of the other h4350 burn rate powders. I get good results from n555, sounds like Staball might be good too. Something a touch slower burning than h4350

    Tricer LP panhead vs VA5

The tricer is a good little head..personally it does not replace my va5 but when weight is a concern it gets the nod. You may not notice a huge difference until you start getting uneven surface/not perfectly level, your optic is not ballanced well, heavier scope etc. that’s then the VA5 really...

    RokStok

Got an email that one of my stocks (tikka no rail ordered 12/22) was in the shop and they needed to clarify some things. Hope that helps some anxious Roksliders 😉

Points planing 2 year, 5 year 10 year and beyond sharing my thoughts

Call me crazy I’d rather spend that money on a LO tag and spend 2-3 weeks (or more) hunting for a big mule deer 😬 That could all change in the next 5-10 years when I start looking at using it..but I’m very happy i set it up a few years ago. There’s enough now that if I draw one of those...

Points planing 2 year, 5 year 10 year and beyond sharing my thoughts

Solid. I’ve got a pretty similar setup, but a little less organized. It pays to plan ahead at least 3-5 years and account for some point creep. I’ll add the idea of having a “dream fund”. I have X amount of dollars going into a high yield savings account every month. With the idea that some day...

    Tracking Big Mule Deer

Good episode and it’s a great chapter in the book! “Paying attention to the tracks” is what got these two bucks of mine killed. First one was a few years ago after I read Robby’s book. Wyoming general unit and a nice deer for that unit/year. I caught a glimpse of him scouting and hunted him on...

newbie duck hunter, give me advice on a super basic set of decoys

decoys are pretty darn low on importance for killing ducks. Most important is being on the X/scouting/spending time out there. Half dozen to a dozen teal, couple mallards, probably all you need. I rig up with 1oz triangle fishing weights.

    Idaho Controlled Hunt Results 24

We tried to get the group at least hunting the same general area with a mix of control tags and OTC…no dice! 3/6 of us will be hunting at least, better than nothing.

How is this concept so hard to grasp? Or am I dead wrong? Lol

On that website you are very deep into Fudd territory..unlikely to have a productive conversation unless it’s about finding the NODE

    RRS TFCX-13 vs Ascend-14

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been happy with my ascend..I need to play with removing a leg section and using just the short center column. Would love to see what you come up with end caps

    BTX or Pure 14’s

BTX, in the right situations, will actually help you find more deer than the 15s. A “better” pair of 15s might give you a slight advantage over the current 15s..I don’t know that it would be as much of a game changer. If the terrain you hunt is conducive to long range glassing…I’d take the btx...

    Compact binos?

At one point I had the maven 8x30, conquest 8x32, and victory pocket 8x25 and played around with them all for about a week. I kept the mavens and they have been used a ton over the past 7-8 years now. Compared to the conquest they are physically smaller and lighter, to a noticeable degree. I...
