Thanks for the reply. As the majority of my camping is near the truck, I opted for the small weight/size penalty of the 30" sheet and their 30" light mattress. A lot to be said about consecutive nights of good sleep and I believe it will be worth it. We will see.a
I'm thinking that the worst...
Talk to me about zenbivy sizes. I'm 6'2"and I'm planning on picking up a new kit while they're on sale but struggling on size.
I think the light option is the best for me and I'm planning on getting the XL quilt. I toss and turn quite a bit and end up on my side a lot.
I'm struggling with...
Refreshing that people can still have differing opinions and be civil. Props man.
It's definitely a faster expiration in my experience to take out circulatory system than lungs. I hunt in thick country so it's my preference to get them down as quickly as possible and having a solid blood trail...
Scythe or the Enticer S Ti. Id lean Enticer for half the price and maybe just a tad more weight. I own the scythe and a wolfhunter which is an Enticer S Ti with 6mm baffles. If I had to buy one again, it'd be the wolfhunter.
If it works for you man, have at it. There's a place for them for sure. I've certainly dropped deer with both types of bullets but would put my money on the larger wound channel every time for the time to death calculation.
The 30-30 150 TSX that barnes sells for the 30-30 does have a lower velocity requirement for "expansion". They shoot like pure shit out of my henry so i gave up on them and I'm glad I did. I'd say what you experienced is probably typical for a mono at that velocity.
Get some federal loaded...
Man this is tough. Is the 223 illegal in your state for elk? Not sure that's been answered, only assumed. I was going down the 243 path as well and I'm glad i didn't.
I can't imagine a better fit for my son than the chopped down and suppressed 16" Tikka compact he has now. It's a perfect fit...
Here's the deal, I'll say it, use a different bullet. Unless you're REQUIRED to use a mono bullet, there are much better options out there if you're looking to put them down quickly.
I've experienced no unpredictable POI shift with my wolfhunter on multiple barrels. Not one gun or setup has had issues with it. Hands down it's my favorite can and an absolute show stopper. It's oddly much quieter from a bystanders perspective than behind the gun but it's not loud by any means...
Honestly that's one hell of an adventure. Looking at their site it seems very reasonable as well. That is a really special trip that you and your buddies went on that I'm sure you will never forget. Thanks for the inspiration.
I think if you make a better shot, the blood trail will be there. I need a blood trail where I hunt because it's extremely thick. However, the two most recent whitetail victims of a .223 went down in sight. I like that better than a blood trail.
I've always loved the 6.5-284 and think the 6mm version is very cool as well. If that's all of the velocity you're getting then it'd be hard to justify over a 6 creed IMO. Especially considering the brass work compared to off the shelf ready to roll. All that said, I still think it'd be awesome...
6 creed is the play as much as I love the thought of another ackley. Either one won't be well suited for h1000 though.
Getting great brass for the 6creed is an easy task. Pack it full of h4350 or n555 and pick a 100+gr bullet of your choosing. Easy button. I have a 26" setup for matches and an...
