Garmin InReach FAILURE - test yours

I use my Explorer+ every week, often more than once a week. Heading for a dirt bike ride? Turn on tracking for the wifey. Walking the coastal plains? Turn on tracking for the wifey. Mountain bike ride? Tracking. What this does is get me very familiar with the device. Love that it's standalone...

    DIY Electrolyte Mix?

I just use the WHO simple ORS recipe. I work in my warehouse, which averages about 100 degrees and 70%+ humidity all summer. Works a peach and is dirt cheap. 1 liter water 2 tablespoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt

    Hearing protection at the range

Foam plugs used correctly are very good, but not enough for shooting near a brake. I add electric muffs over foam plugs. At our private range, same same, except when shooting the Rokslide special in .223. Hyperion is remarkably hearing safe.

Almost hit this 8-point on my dirt bike...

Little velvet 8-point jumped in front of me. Video shows much better quality of him popping out at time 17:50.

Tikka "Rokslide Special", let's see 'em

Finally shot the Hyperion on my. 223 RSS. Amazingly quiet. Sounds like my suppressed 10/22. Significant change in POI. Shot two quick rounds (was being eaten by skeeters) then adjusted .7 mils up and .5 left. Good from there with the next 6 rounds. When I have some bug spray we'll put more...

What do you do for a living? How can you help?

I dabbled in my youth. :-) Hmmm, rules. I'm an expert in starch modification using alpha amylase. Not much else. :-)

2024 Cold Bore Challenge Q&A Thread

Often correlation is a plenty good justification of an action. No need to understand the exact "why", as long as we know the "what". So, if using a smaller caliber gives better hit rates; if you want hit rates you might want to use a smaller caliber. If using a smaller caliber still results in...

Silly things you heard as a kid

Grew up in the 60s and 70s. A big one was 6th graders put LSD in the drinking fountains.

My dad loaded shotgun shells with rock salt as a kid to test this theory. Your grandpa was correct. ;-)

    fasted exercise

I'm blessed to be cursed with working in my warehouse all summer, lifting 50 pound sacks from ground level over my head and pushing 2500 pounds totes of liquid around. Best heat training I could ever force myself to do! :-)

    fasted exercise

Smart! Been running 95+ here for days and days, with high humidity. Dewpoints high 70s and even 81 on Monday. Riding my dirt bike between 7-11 AM. Still hot, but not nearly as bad as the afternoons. I can ride with no food but prefer a piece of toast with lots of butter two hours before the ride.

    No USPS gun ship

If you need to educate the USPS postal worker, definitely do it. Don't give up. It's literally their duty to ship as long as you meet the USPS official requirements. Call for the manager if necessary and make it happen...in the nicest possible way of course. :-)

    Inreach mini vs messenger

Explorer+. No regrets. - Long battery life, especially on extended mode, which allows tracking for up to 30 days. - Completely redundant GPS with maps, redundant messaging, email, weather, and real-time tracking. My phone stays in airplane mode to maximize battery life, but if it dies, got a...
