I really like my primary arms 3-18 for my hunting rifle. I only have the Slx 3-18x50 though. If I ever upgraded I wouldn’t hesitate buying a glx version. I really like their reticle. Customer service has been great so far to. They replaced it once for me due to a little speck in the glass.
I to have noticed that from my own 55 Gr 243 loads with h414. The new data is different than back then. They definitely shoot very well in my tc venture as well. Can’t remember off hand how many grains I was using. I just know I was pushing around 3800fps I only have a little h414 left now. I’m...
I understand the factory 165ablr not shooting well. I have been loading it on my fast twist browning 270 and it has been a fussy bullet to get to shoot well. If it that fussy hand loading I could see a lot of guns not liking the factory loaded stuff.
I thought about building one but wanted it for an elk hunting trip this year. Didn’t think I would have got it built in the timeframe I have and still get a load worked up and range time before hand. Ended up buying an x bolt western hunter lr with factory 1:7.5 twist. Love it so far.
Maybe someday. Just bought a fast twist 270 win that I’ve been working up loads for. Can shoot same heavy bullets as 6.8 western just not quite as high of velocity. So far it pushes 165 ablr to almost 2900 fps and will carry the 1500ft/lbs that most people go by for elk out to 640yds. Plus...
I think the 6.8 is a great cartridge. Kinda wish I would have bought one the more I read on it. Hornady is definitely trying to kill it knowing it is an equal to the 7prc. I know a lot of people don’t like Backfire on YT but he had an interesting video comparing the two and questioning why the...
Definitely trying to minimize meat loss. Sst tends to be violent on impact especially at the closer ranges of the wooded Wisconsin land I hunt. I want to be able to put as much as I can in the freezer.
I will be using a Browning Western Hunter LR .270 Winchester this year with a 165 Nosler ablr. Working on finalizing a load so I can hit the range a bunch this summer.
I prefer to use the 100gr interlock over the 95sst. I have had less meat loss and feel it is a stronger bullet than the sst when bone is hit. Both are very accurate bullets though
I was able to push a 165 Gr Nosler ablr to 2900fps with Reloader 26 in a 24” fast twist barrel so you should be able to get close to the 3000fps mark with a 150 Gr bullet if you reload. Otherwise you can’t go wrong with a light fast mono in your 1:10 twist barrel either
I usually use energizer lithium here in Wisconsin through the winter. Lithium are the only ones that continue to work in the cold temperatures. The rest of the seasons I can get away with cheaper batteries if I am using my cameras.
if you don’t reload unknown munitions also loads some higher b.c. Bullets for the 270 win. https://www.unknownmunitions.com/product-category/ammunition/270win/
Nobody want to have to do it yourself but sometimes there is no choice. When your life long friend looks at you and says I have suffered long enough and it is time, you just have to say ok and take them for that last walk or carry them to their favorite spot and do what nobody wants to do. I had...
Here is my ballistic table in a 1:7.5” twist factory browning western hunter lr 270win with a Nosler 165 accubond long range. I will never shoot it that far unless I move to the plains states but this is what the Hornady app gives me.
Here is an update. Got to loading some 165gr. accubond LR over the past few days. So far I’ve managed to get a max charge of 57.7 grains of Reloader 26 for 2930fps. Optimal charge is around 56.5 grains for 2880fps. Found that the ablr likes a lot of jump at .100” in my Browning western hunter LR...
