What they're talking about doing is using the Baofeng (or similar) to broadcast on the same frequencies (usually) as the normal FRS/GMRS bands used by the Motorola/Midland/etc UHF-radios.
FRS does not require a license but limits you to 0.5W of power. GMRS does but it's a pretty stupid "pay it...
500d is lighter, more supple, and has a tighter weave so it's naturally more water-resistant. All of the 1000d I've felt seemed pretty coarse.
If you want abrasion resistant and fully waterproof you could just go get a custom McHale full-cuban. You won't need to worry about your wallet...
Here's what works for me...
Rain gear: Kuiu Chugash (Yukon if you want heavier/more durable)
Mid-puffy: FL Uncompahgre
Mid top: FL Chama hoodie
Pants
First choice: FL Corrugate
Second choice: Prana Stretch Zion
I have Yukon but it's heavy to pack. Bomber kit though. If you need...
I did not poke one. I should have.
This was taken with a bow so no pellets.
Looking online I can find -1- other reference from a lady up in near SK about 6 years ago that had something similar.
Kaos are lighter GPI, go down to stiffer shafts, have (slightly) better tolerances, are field-tested and you can actually buy them.
Fire and Ice cannot compete if they cannot even be purchased. ;)
Cross post from the Meat care section, wanted to raise visibility here in the Game Bird forum.
Thanks.

"Fire and Ice" don't show up on the website.
Kinetic Kaos can be had down to a 200 spine with 0.0025 tolerance.
I'm interested in these but not sure that they actually compete head-to-head with the Kaos from what I've seen so far online ...
Would you prefer ...
a) that the head hit closer to your aim point but with the tail deflected, thus less penetration, or
b) the entire arrow pushed over
I'm going to usually take (a) because even as much as I love heavy high-FOC arrows ... accuracy > penetration.
All things in moderation...
High FOC has another overlooked advantage as well: stabilization. Ultra-FOC setups need fletching because it "pulls" the arrow into a straight line (think: a thrown javelin) so you get better arrow flight. You see the same effect while playing dart... very very heavy head compared to the...
It's not anecdotal, it's what Dr. Ashby et al have been proving for years: the mass of the object plays a more important role in penetration than velocity does. You may get more KE (and even momentum) from a given setup, but the exponential drop as you encounter resistance very very quickly...
Thread's been covered pretty well so far, but one last observation.
KE = mv^2 as we all know. So you get big numbers very quickly and that's great on paper.
What's not realized (or at least articulated well) is that once your arrow TOUCHES something it begins to slow down (duh?) but the...
Worth noting that in most states there are signage as well as possibly fencing restrictions to closing land to trespassing. It might be worth reading up on, in detail, for your area. Here's a starting point: http://www.oregonlaws.org/ors/105.700
IANAL, just trying to help shed light.

I went Yukon for durability. I don't trust myself to not break a Chugash.
The Uncompahgre is way too warm (at least for me) to hike in. Great piece though ... light SS merino, merino sweather, Uncompahgre at 20deg. I wish it was a touch more durable (it has some 10d or 20d-ish panels on it.)...
