Yes, just trying to avoid the unit number dropping game or “where should I go?” type stuff. I assume the strategy will be similar anywhere that has the appropriate elevation.
Thanks. Our strategy with elk has been burn through some areas on the trails until finding < 1 day old sign, then get off into the dark timber with the wind in your favor and slow WAY down. Found a lot of fresh mule deer sign and beds in there with them, but that was a different area.
I‘d...
Hey all,
We have been on several CO elk hunts (archery and muzzleloader), and drew a mule deer tag with 3 points this year. We fly in September 9 and will be hunting starting the 10.
Have an area/unit in mind, but am looking for info on strategy during that time frame. From the research I’ve...
From what I’ve heard the Gavia spotters don’t entirely live up to the Zeiss premium name, and the older Diascope spotters were superior. I haven’t looked though a Gavia and have a 65mm Diascope which I’ve been pleased with but don’t have much to compare it to.
I went with the Zeiss’s, and have been very happy with them. To me, they are “close enough” to as good as it gets for a fraction of the price.
I just can’t get on board with Vortex. I understand that some of their cheaper offerings are functional for less $, but when you’re looking at spending...
It’s public land, I’m happy to be out in the woods with 500 of my closest friends. I don’t care if people know where I hunt, I’ll even post a pic.
Don’t think I ran into anybody in that section last trip, might get overrun now. :ROFLMAO:
CCI SV for $5/box shoots substantially better in my Tikka T1X than the Eley Match ammo does.
It’s normal these days to spend $40-50 just going to the range shoot by yourself for fun these days, do they shoot 500 rounds of .22 LR in a match?
I’m not competing, I have enough hobbies already, but...
It would be a DIY deal, but there is a material called tulle available at many fabric stores. It is extremely light, my hammock net weighs 1.5 oz, but it is somewhat fragile. You could probably make an inner liner with fabric tape and a hole for the pole to go through. Hold it up in place with...
I don’t really see it that way, but it’s an interesting point.
I don’t think breeders cull like they used to either, so you’re left with either a diluted “breed standard”, or an increasingly smaller and more incestual “paper breeding” which leads to more health problems. One of the reasons dogs...
The issue is stuff like the “1%.” Anybody who has ever looked at data knows that isn’t statistically significant, it’s within the margin of error in almost any study.
However, people that want hunting banned will look at it and claim the sky is falling and eagles are going to be extinct.
Your...
Following this. I shoot an older Mathews and was hitting groups like this with very minimal effort. IIRC this group was even shooting one arrow each at 5,10,15,20,25,30, and 35 yards, which explains the 4” vertical stringing. I’ve shot two arrows at the same distance and broken nocks off.
It...
I’m not a fan of how popular it’s become, especially within the last 2 years. There was a noticeable change in the number of guys out there EVERYWHERE with absolutely ZERO idea what they were doing. Stuff like just walking through the woods at a normal hiking pace blowing a call, with the wind...
I have a S/M Icon Pro (not the newest updated Pro) they came out with ~2 years ago I’d be willing to sell if you’re interested. It’s Verde if that matters to you.
Sent. Passing legislation based on “feelings of the public” rather than wildlife biologists is a recipe for disaster.
FL had banned black bear hunting quite a few years ago, because enough people didn‘t “like the idea of it.”
Due to development, there started becoming more bear/human issues...
I bought an Elberlestock Bandit that seems similar to what you’re looking for, though I haven’t used it much yet.

With 2 and 4 year old boys, I needed something to carry enough water, snacks, and rain jackets...
I really like the guys at Stone Glacier, but this stuff is rarely good for the brand.
I don’t blame them for selling, I’m sure with the supply chain issues lately on top of years of growing, it was hard to turn down an offer like “We will buy you out for 5 million dollars, keep you on as head...
It’s a mess for sure. Inevitably what happens is the winning companies are able to buy out the others, remove all competition, and do whatever they want, especially with high barriers to entry.
The prices NEEDED to go up in order to have some of it return to the shelves. Otherwise it was a mix...
