You might look into finding a shipyard willing to rent you a skiff. Near the beginning and ends of the commercial seasons, they are up and running without a whole lot going on. Many of them have bunkhouses and cook for the staff.
Accommodations are usually at the lower end of “hunt camp”...
From my limited experience, it doesn’t get that cold in Colorado in September. We were at 10,000’ during muzzleloader week and I think it *may* have hit 39 briefly.
It’s going to be the coldest when you’re getting ready in the morning, which is the last time you want to deal with building a...
I’m not that far from you, the north side of Tallahassee. We’ve been fairly “normal”, I work for myself and the wife has still been going in.
Sick and tired of this Covid garbage, as well as our rights being stripped away as fast as possible it seems.
Took the boys to the beach yesterday and...
The Stihl pro saws are worth the $. My dad bought an 026 when I was about 10, the saw is old enough to drink now. Freshened it up last year with a new bar, chain, sprocket, carb, and fuel lines. Still original piston, rings, bottom end, etc. Runs great and is the perfect “smaller serious saw”...
Coming from the land of mud, it’s odd to me how guys talk about chains being necessary for it. I suppose if you run street tires and then just chain up whenever you go off-road it’s a reasonable substitute, but an aired down mud terrain with a guy who knows how to drive will make it through a...
I own a small construction company that has stayed open and we have been slammed with work. I declined to participate in the PPP loans because #1 there was a fixed amount of $ available, and I’d prefer the companies that really needed it to get the assistance, #2 I have very little interest...
Follow the $, it’s the easy way to figure out what’s really going on in most cases.
There were apparently busses bringing BLM folks into town to protest, I asked “who’s paying for them?” Lots of puzzled looks.
I’ve had good success with my sawyer squeeze, the only thing I’ve heard problems with are the bags. I don’t even use them, I have it set up with a 4L platypus gravity feed bag.
Hunting partner just bought a steripen, so we will have the ability to treat water separately if needed, as well as a...
I’m not in the industry so I don’t know where stuff is sourced, but it seems to me like it’s a way to stand out. They can’t compete with Vortex on price, or Euro stuff on clarity, so it’s sort of an “in the middle” game.
FWIW, there is very little noticeable difference when you’re talking 1x...
I run the single ARB and am a big fan of it. I like not having to wonder if my compressor will burn up airing the tires back to street PSI to drive home on, and it’s nice not having to drag a bunch of stuff out and connect it. Also rebuildable and you can get parts for it.
Well worth the $ to...
How heavy of a pack can you carry?
People always seem to struggle with understanding towing capacities, legality aside.
Just because something is rated to tow 12,000 lbs doesn’t mean it will do it up a 10% grade at 10,000 ft in the dead of summer, day after day, with no loss of performance or...
Dehydrating is simple. Freeze drying requires a rather expensive machine. Freeze drying does have a much longer shelf life and apparently better flavor/texture with some things.
For a week long backpacking trip with some spaghetti, dehydrating is fine. There are quite a few YouTube videos on it.
I’ve heard the same thing, that they don’t work that well. If someone could come out with a pair of doublers or triplers that we’re clear, weighed 8-12 oz and could thread into bino objective lenses, they would be worth $2,000 pretty easily.
I’ve only seen the outfitter camps left up all season.
If folks are doing it out of convenience, meaning setting up a wall tent and only able to hunt it on the weekends, I’d just camp/hunt as close as I needed to there regardless. It’s people that deserve a respectful berth, not just their...
Haha. They sell the bag and frame separately for the same price as the combo. Order the bag now, show her while she’s distracted with something else, then shove it in the closet and don’t speak of it again. A few months later, order the frame and clip it together. When she asks just tell her...
I’m very happy with the layout of my KUIU Ultra 5500. I don’t care for the draw string snow collar closures, so I’m converting it to a roll top instead. I also prefer the horseshoe zips rather than the side zips, but it’s not a big deal. It just requires putting the most needed stuff on top. The...
I haven’t used the Venture packs but I use an Icon Pro 1850 with the frame for day hunts (as well as longer).
I really like the ability to pack out a whole deer in one trip, or put a turkey/decoy/tree stand/sitting pad in the meat shelf.
The Venture is less than 1 lb lighter and probably is a...
