I have killed more mule deer with my recurve than I ever did with a compound.
With that said, you will have many more hunts that end with tag soup switching to a trad bow. Getting under 20 yards is simply much harder than getting to 40 or 50 yards.
I'm 44. Over the years here are the following animals I've hit and not recovered.
Rifle - 1 lost - probably 10 hunts total
Compound- 1 lost - probably 25 hunts total
Traditional Bow - 2 lost - probably 45 hunts total.
So given me as a single data point, a rifle is more unethical with a 10%...
Is a traditional bow at 25 yards any less ethical than a compound at 80 or 90 yards? How about an muzzleloader at 300? Or a rifle at 800?
I can look up videos of guys doing all of the above on any given day.
I shoot an instinctive, pick-a-point, split vision, gap...
I have painstakingly dabbled in all the aiming methods and use the one that's best suited for the shot I have in front of me.
For example, if I'm on the 3d coursr under 15 yards I instinctive aim. 15 to 30 I split vision shoot and 30...
Yes sir you are on the right track. Limbs weighed on a 25" riser are the standard for Olympic limbs. Limbs weight on a 17" riser are the standard for most hunting Limbs. When in doubt moat Limbs are marked with the riser length.
I think your explanation of what you are looking at should be...
A really good set up that won't break the bank but give you room to upgrade, would be either a tradtech, DAS, or Hoyt Satori riser. With Tradtech Blackmax limbs.
This part gets confusing so ask for clarification if I don't explain well.
1. Each Manufacturer will rate the poundage of the limbs on a given riser length. For example, most Olympic Recurve limbs will be marked for a 25" riser. Tradtech limbs are marked for a 17" riser. So you need to...
My two cents...
64 or 66 if your draw is that long. I'm 6 foot and shoot 62 or 64 with a 28.5 inch draw.
I'd start at 45 pounds. Look at it this way, my wife has killed several elk, including a bruiser 380ish bull at 45 pounds and a 26" draw. If youre shooting 45 with a 30 or 31 inch draw...
This is a good tip. I have also found extreme tuning differences with different strings. With that said, my findings have shown its more related to silencer material and location.
Infact, I often use different silencer materials or placement to get a tune dialed in. It can make a bigger...
Great job. I don't know what year I'm on in my trad journey. Year 19 maybe. It took me more than one year to be successful, but once I got that first kill under my belt it seemed like they just kept coming and coming.
I shoot carbon limbs. What's the difference between Carbon and Fiberglass? How about is a carbon arrow that much different than a Microflyte arrow from the 70s?
Shoot what makes you happy. If that's a self bow, cool. If that's a fiberglass backed bow from the 70s, cool. If it's a metal riser...
I've found that alot is bow set up dependent. If you are in the stiff side of the tune the orientation needed may ne different than if you're on the weaker side.
Additionally shelf width and amount of apex is gonna play into it.
So, I would say that your test is a good one to determine the...
