    Military sleep system

I can’t afford a new bag this year so I’m hoping a good pad will help my mss be more comfortable. The few times I use it in September my pad was only an inch thick and it wasn’t comfortable on the ground at all. Also I have used the system in the back of my van with temps in the low 20’s and I...

    Best Hot Weather Clothing

I used the wrangler outdoor pants this summer while working in Savannah Georgia. Most of our work was indoor but we still had to unload trucks and shit outside in the sun. I had them the Eddie Bauer guide pants and la police gear operator pants( same material I think as bdu pants and some 5.11...

    Kuiu Yukon pants while fishing?

I don’t get to hunt enough days in a year so I try and buy solid colors and wear them for as many outdoor activities as I can. Like the other guy said just wash before hunting. This stuff costs too much to only use a few weeks a year.

    Recent Military Surplus Purchases

I have the grid fleece top and bottoms and really like them. I have been wanting them gloves but haven’t found them in my size yet. I also have a fleece jacket that is really good to. When it’s windy and wet and we’re setting up camp I wear the level 5 soft shell system and I don’t have to...

Pant with waterproof seat and knees

Do the waterproof panels make you sweat more? I have the alpine pants and unless I have a thin base layer on my knees sweat so I would imagine it would be similar? I would like a pair with the waterproof seat because even kneeling down the heels of my boots will get snow or mud on my pants...

    Favorite Hunting Pants?

are the Kutanas anything like the alpine pants? I like the alpines as long as I have at least a thin base layer on otherwise my knees sweat from the knee pads. Another question is do the pants with the waterproof seats and leg panels ( axis talus timberline) make you sweat like the knee pads do?

    Lightweight Touchscreen Gloves that work

I use a stylus. You can get them cheap at wallmart by the register. Never take gloves off again. It sits in my bino harness

    Michigan elk poachers

This is about 15 miles south of where I’m deer hunting. After watching elk for the last week while deer hunting I don’t know how someone could accidentally mistake one for a whitetail. It didn’t say if any meat was taken from the animal. It seems about every year or so this happens. I hope...

    let's talk emergency sleep/shelter setups

Yes true story. I awoke to the sound of the leaves rustling and first thought was start blasting. They were almost 20 feet from me when I was fully awake and aware of wha was going on. I was sleeping under the stars and the mood was out so I could see pretty good. At first I was kinda...

    Those Using Woodstoves In Tents

We don’t use an ultralight tent we use an army tent. One guy Brings his pellet pistol. That way he can hunt mice too.

    let's talk emergency sleep/shelter setups

I’ll either have my .44 or my Glock 19 to ward off the boogie man. Although the one time I got surrounded by coyotes my flashlight scared them off easily and I didn’t blow out my ears or blinded by the muzzle flash. A good light or 2 is a must have

    Gloves

I’ve yet to find good warm gloves that I can wear my sitka traverse gloves under. At wallmart they have 3 packs of stylus ( don’t know if that is the right spelling and I don’t care) for using my touch screen with gloves on. They save a lot of taking gloves on and off. A lot of places give...

What is the worst piece of Sitka Gear?

I don’t understand why they don’t have hand pockets. Same with all the Kuiu hoodies.

    Simple but great

We use a handicap toilet it has a frame so it fits over a standard toilet in your house. It is sturdy and we use a small pop up blind for privacy and wind protection.

    Outer Layer Suggestions

It may be too noisy for that. It is probably as noisy as the sitka mountain jacket

    Outer Layer Suggestions

The surplus issue soft shell is not bad for the price. What I don’t like is the big Velcro patches on the arms but it’s not a deal breaker. It definitely blocks wind really good and is pretty water resistant. I e used the jacket and pants in an all day light drizzle and my body heat pretty...

    Mystery ranch, which pack?

Definitely post up a thread when you do the manitou Island hunt. I’ve been wanting to that but I have limited vacation time so I need to choose wisely what I take off

    Wall tents

We were up there this year for archery deer and actually got a decent phone signal for once. So hopefully after the leaves fall it is better

    Wall tents

It does seem a bit ridiculous but after a long day out in the field it is like a slice of heaven when the wood stove is kicking.
