Cover a shit ton of ground at last light and very first light in the morning with a crow or some other shock gobble call. They will be 3/4 the way up steep ridges on the roost. Mountain birds move a ton so that just a starting point. I’ve only killed a few birds off the roost on dozens and...
Honestly with the 140-160 class bullet get h4831sc and if you don’t find a super accurate super temp stable load I would be surprised. I could push the 162 eldms at 3000 out of a 26 barrel and the 168 Berger’s at 2930 pretty easily. I don’t really like the 140’s out of the 280ai, I think the...
Idk about 22 but 23 is temp stable and much easier to find than 26. Gives awesome speed. I’ve heard 23 is more stable than 26 but I’ve yet to see that with my own eyes so take that with a grain of salt.
Depends on bullet weight and what you want.
160-168 class bullet h4831sc or h1000
175-180 class bullet RL23
Im shooting the 175’ EH out of a 24’ proof at 2950! It’s nasty!
primers I use are 210 gmm
She does. There we’re supposed to be open conversations between the public, game and fish and the SLO to possibly work out a resolution. She did not allow those conversations to take place and closed the property to hunting without any input. Citing public safety from “bullets”.
I hope this is appropriate to post here. We need all your support. This was a piece of state property that was mostly utilized for waterfowl hunting but it sets a bad president.
Support us and all hunters who enjoy access to NM state land by responding to this unilateral decision from the SLO...
IMO your 7 mag is a more versatile hunting caliber than the 6.5 PRC and the 243 especially twisted right can smoke deer sized game to 500 no problem. It sounds like you need a 6.5x47, 6.5/6creed, 6br or even a fast twist 223. Those will teach you more about shooting to 1k than anything I can...
Jury is still kind of out on the prc and barrel life but it’s a mag cartridge, very similar to a 6.5x284 in terms of ballistics and people get around 1200 rounds in those give or take a few hundred depending on how much you lean on it. 6.5 creed and some of the 6br variants should get you 3k...
I wouldn’t overlook a tikka t3, very accurate and prefits are available. I definitely would consider a 6 or 6.5 creed if your just starting out. They have the best factory ammo options of any calibers I can think of.
Trying to help my sister in law find my brother in law a bow. He’s new to hunting and bows. He’s right handed with a 27’ DL. I’m lefty or I would have hooked her up with one of my old bows. She can only spend 500 tops! Looking for something hopefully in a package with accessories. Let me know...
Your probably right, but look at every one of these threads, under 500, under 800, under 1000. Most hunters will not pay that and the comp shooters that will, generally don’t care about weight in optics. My match rifle weighs 15 plus pounds and wears a 3k dollar plus optic in a spuhr mount...
That’s always the problem with these threads, most of us never see a large enough sample size to make a definitive argument on a particular scope. Even theta tangents and Schmidt’s break. I do have much more confidence in certain brands and lines of scopes that I have owned or friends have owned...
The AMG is only 28 oz’s..... I will take that weight penalty. The nightforce nx8 is in that same weight class and for me the price and weight are worth the piece of mind.
I agree with the statements about needing a certain amount of heft in a scope to make it reliable. If I’m shooting distances with a center fire rifle that requires me to dial elevation I want at least 18 x mag and I’m not gonna skimp on weight. I think the vortex AMG 6x24 is the best lighter...
7saum and the 280AI are pretty much ballistic twins. In my current 24’ proof barreled 280 ai I’m running the 175 Berger’s at 2930 with RL 23, got up to 2975 but was getting a good bit of ejector swipe. I got the Sierra 165 game changers to 2975 with h1000. These are labradar speeds not verified...
Don't teach a pointing dog to sit. Whoa means stand/stay still. Sitting causes problems latter. Above was right you really need a mentor. I feed and have all my dogs sleep in the crate as soon as they are weaned, so all night and a couple hours a day but they need exercise and the bathroom.
Building something like this for a match/hunting rifle for my wife. Bighorn origin, xlr carbon chassis, proof carbon 20’ 6.5 prc for hunting, 26’ x caliber 6 br for matches targets. Probably tt diamond or two stage of some type, not decided yet.
