Looking at putting something together that compact so it’s easier to pack with a suppressor for mule deer sized game that I can give to my kid when he is big enough that can shoot around 600 yards I’m heading to kodiak next year for a Sitka hunt and want to use it on the hunt then put it away for him thinking some sort of factory 6.5 any other suggestions?

Building something like this for a match/hunting rifle for my wife. Bighorn origin, xlr carbon chassis, proof carbon 20’ 6.5 prc for hunting, 26’ x caliber 6 br for matches targets. Probably tt diamond or two stage of some type, not decided yet.

Was thinking around 1500 for the gun so pretty much something factoryish weight is just not heavy would like something in the 8-9 pound range all done

When you said put something together I assumed going custom but $1500 doesn't really allow for that unless you have a donor action.

Do you have any donor rifles that would be a candidate? I think that may still be the best way to get what you want.

I got a ruger Mark 2 7 mag I was thinking about doing was looking at those browning hells canyons and debating. On getting one and having a smith chop the barrel

Not particularly sold on any caliber after looking at the Berger website I’m debating on chopping my 300 win down and just shooting a 180 elite out of it

300 win mag? I thought this was for your kid? 6.5 Creedmoor would be OK. 7mm-08 is pretty good with 162 Eld-Ms but is getting into some solid recoil. .243 or 6mm Creedmoor will handle deer at 600yds with 105gr+ bullets.
