    I'd get a black hunter off amazon for under 100.and see if you enjoy it. There are limbs readily available to increase draw weight so you don't overbow yourself right from the start, plus it's nice later to have some lighter weight limbs for rabbit hunting and such.

    I find animals all the time...mine, yours, doesn't matter just gotta outrun the girls. Pro tip, push them to keep em bleeding, bonus if you shoot them in the leg it slows them down. ~AVB but friends call me leg reaper.

    I have my 870 12g from when I was 12. Those guns can take a beating. I reach for my 870 20g though almost every time. I can share shells with my daughter or wife, and conversely don't usually have to share with buddies.

    Lots of good soft shell stuff out there that will cross over well. Most of the ski stuff I own is far superior to the hunting stuff for cold weather.

    I'm just glad my childhood passed before Instagram hunting ruined my reading choices. Would be terrible to find out that Patrick McManus didn't do some of the stuff he wrote about, or in some case he did, otherwise much like Outdoor Life I'd never read it again.

    what's too far in?

    One step further than needed to get the job done is too far. If I am alone I try to stay within 5 miles unless I know I can keep the meat in good shape. Unfortunately i think we've all seen a nice animal well beyond where we would have liked to be, but we were there and thats what makes memories.
