Hunt with a frame and a couple pouches to carry the essentials for the day, kill kit, first aid kit and water. Comes in at less than 10#.
Have a Trautman hip quiver that’s older than dirt. It’s been reworked over the years and I like it. Unfortunately, it’s hits the load shelf on the pack, so I...
Also not gear related. 8/24/96 cut my left hand off and had to have it reattached. Missed that season completely.
In 2013 I had my right shoulder rebuilt in May, broke my right ankle in August 3 days before I was released on my shoulder. Didn’t know I broke it so went to Colorado for 2 weeks...
I agree with Paul that camo pattern is not that important.
Most whitetail hardwood camo is cotton. In the mountains of Montana, cotton can kill you if the weather goes south, and it can happen in a hurry.
You assume correctly, 95% of the time archery, 80% solo. It’s not about stone size, it’s about being smart IMO. Always keep a clean camp, always be situationally aware. If you’re sitting around the campfire, your pistol better be in your hand. Most folks never fire a gun in a high stress...
Definitely agree with Idaho and Alaska. Idaho has 2 bear units on the western side close to Coeur de’Alene. A very beautiful area to spend some time after the hunt.
Agree with IS, water is much more important. I’ve hunted Idaho and Wyoming around Yellow Stone and never cut a grizzly track.
If a cracked out sheep herder comes after me, I’ve got 5 nice sharp broadheads to fight with.
Fine rifle and a great elk round.
I never shoot that many rounds in a sitting for fear of developing bad habits. Clean the bore, fire a fouling shot then shoot 3 rounds. See where you’re at.
Recoil is relative to each person. I had a Mark 2 in 7 mag, laminated stock and didn’t think it was too...
What’s up with the 14’ pole racking, guess I’ve been doing it wrong.
Anyone else notice that the buddy changed camo? At the shot he was wearing woodland and at the recovery he was sporting subalpine.
Sure glad I skipped though it.
Turned 63 a few days ago and planning a Colorado archery elk hunt.
I’ve been shooting 65# for several years now, but it’s the extra weight I’m carrying that is my biggest issue. Very easy to put it on and difficult to get off!
One thing I don’t see factored in is the airline issues. Your short 4 hour flight can quickly turn into a 2 day nightmare. You could easily have to spend the night somewhere with your meat thawing in baggage storage.
No way I would fly to a hunt in North America. Drove 22 hours by myself to...
The smoothest bow I’ve ever owned or shot was the Elite E35. Wish I still had one left.
Finding one used can be an issue, guys just don’t seem to let them go. A small local shop has a brand new one that I’ve been looking at, 29/70, perfect for me. Trying to justify it so I can pull the trigger.
