I've been on 4 archery elk hunts and have killed 4 elk; so 100%, all on public land DIY.
2 general WY tags- 270" 6 point and a small 5 point
MT Gen- raghorn
ID OTC- cow (2nd biggest elk though haha)
Will hopefully be headed to MT this fall to shoot for 5/5.
This is one of the crazier posts I've seen on Rokslide. I've passed on exactly one legal elk in 4 years in the mountains, and it was a cow the first day. I've killed a decent 6, two raghorns, and a cow. And I was every bit as excited for the cow as I was the 6. I like seeing regular guys...
I used to just travel with an open back and ratchet strapped everything down. I broke down and got an old man topper and I haven't looked back. It's really really nice having the extra space and able to keep all your gear dry. It'll still get dusty back there, but it doesn't get wet. Can...
@Woodchuck16 I'll send you a PM, you're likely higher level than a lot of the stuff I would give out. If the PM doesn't work shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and I can try and get you started on some higher level stuff that I give out. Some of my go-to higher level activities, are...
It's a giant scam, protect the consumer my ass. Wall street does it everyday, and some idiots on an internet forum fought back, banded together and are bleeding a couple hedge funds in the billions. I think it's absolutely hilarious, and am rooting for the reddit community to hold, hold, and...
They are where you find them, I've killed them anywhere from a mile to 5 miles in from a trailhead. If they're 5 miles in I'll hunt them there, but there's something to be said for being mobile. If I'm hunting a new spot I'll hunt from the truck the first few days and if I get into them more...
Leave friday the 10th, the extra 2 days of hunting are wayyy more valuable than the "proper" moon phase. I've had plenty of great hunts on a full moon with elk screaming at noon. I think it has very little to do with it personally.
I only live about an hour away from you. I guess do you really want to enjoy deer hunting again? I started hunting elk a few years ago and I didn't even bowhunt WI last year, I get my fix in September chasing elk for the year. I still rifle hunt with family/friends, but it's more about...
I would argue base layers you can get away on the cheaper side and outer layers you kind of get what you pay for. I really like BlackOvis merino base layers and they're usually on camofire and not too expensive. Even with socks I prefer Costco's merino which are like 15 bucks for a 4 pack over...
Non-refundable Western points I roughly spend- WY- 120$, AZ- 180$'s, CO- 140$'s
Elk tag every year- 6-800$
SD pheasant and ducks every year- 200$'s
WI in-state hunting- 150$'s or so
So in the ballpark of 1500-2000 depending on the year.
I'll likely be in the 2nd round to get it at my hospital; young, healthy, no comorbidities. I also have already had it, including my wife and kid. Not sure if that affects if and when I'm supposed to get it. Understand why people don't want to get it, I'm not a big conspiracy theory dude.
Sorry I'm just seeing this now. 2.25 if I remember correctly, I was scamming points from buddies to try and get back. Ended up having a tough, but fun hunt in Idaho instead.

I didn't say I was leveraged to the gills. My entire rental portfolio could stop paying rent right now and I wouldn't miss a mortgage payment for a full calendar year just based on what I have sitting in reserves. And that's not counting any of our retirement accounts that I could dip...
The other thread got me thinking and I'm just wondering if anyone else feels the same. I'm just stirring the pot a bit, but I love talking finances.
Anyone else here despise Dave Ramsey's advice for people with a handle on their finances? I can't imagine I'm the only guy, I'm sure it's an...
Dry- Purina Pro Plan Sport for my field bred golden. He's not a big eater so high calorie helps, we pheasant hunt 40+ days/year and run 25 miles/week in the off-season. You get what you pay for with dog food. Seth Bynum who is the meateater consultant and bird dog vet (he hunts a ton and...
