ADFG recorded this ram at 12 7/8 (assuming it was recorded and entered correctly at 16).
I don't have 100% faith that their records being correct. The information that gets entered into their database is not really reviewed, nor is there really a way to check it, other than looking at paper...
Thanks for sharing. I figured he had one ring right near the base. I figured he had one since the "growing" ring was the same size or maybe slightly more than the previous year. Cool to see different rams. I have a few broomed rams, they are my just as cool as the long tipped ones.
Yes, I've seen it on 3 rams out about 20. The disease has a name, but I can't remember what its called. Its somewhat common, I guess. One of the rams had really long front teeth, as well as missing some molars, and had really long molars on the top/bottom filling in the holes. Sorry no good...
That's a tricky one. I don't' think any bio pretends to know the exact age of any ram. Unless they have an ear tag and the know their birth date, there is always a chance they are off.
Was the 3/4 ring 2011/2012 winter? I have a few rams that show up at 1/2 to /2/3 the normal growth from that...
It will get there across NA, but likely start in BC. The circle jerk happening in Reno right now is just flames to the fire. Selling wildlife to the highest bidder and pretending that its making a difference or supporting the NA wildlife model is a joke. Sheep (and other trophy animals) are sold...
Thats a nice looking bull. Caribou are funky. They can look very impressive but not score worth a dang.
I'd guess that one around 310. Congrats! Cool you shot him with a 444. Doubt many have been taken with one of those!
Google can help you out. The eggs are transported in the blood stream. Maybe I'm loaded with worms, but i doubt it. I ate some tape worm infested moose tonight as a matter of fact.
Almost every moose and caribou I've shot here in AK had them, sime more than others. I cant think of a sheep that had any. Freezing for a week kills them. I still only cook my meat to 130 internal. I will pick them out if I see them but don't worry about them otherwise. The fish we eat both...
He helped clean up your mess and you're upset? I'd have been thrilled for the help.
Quality shots and up on its front end dragging down the hill are not the same in my mind.
16.5 miles one way, sheep hunt with a 2/3rds of a sheep and camp. Packed a moose 2 miles one way about 6 trips later... he was out. That wasn't a lot of fun.
Call ADFG anf ask. I belive the herd is down 20k animals. The quota for hinting this year was much smaller than years past. Like 800 animals vs 4000.
One transporter was telling hunters not to come.
I spent a number of hours one time looking to find any sort of documented evidence of reindeer or caribou drinking piss during the rut. I've heard this happening countless times. Yet everyone that's said it, I've asked if they've actually seen it happen. Zero people that I asked have seen it...
Wishful thinking guys. We're not farming sheep anytime soon. Maybe we hire some herders for the spring to protect the flock for a few weeks? Maybe not close the season on wolverines? I usually see a few every year sheep hunting, but the season isn't open.
No amount of saving a couple rams...
Yes it's for NOK only. The board can't change the guide requirement. The outfitters/guides whined about not having exclusivity of draw tags. NOK looks like they get about 5% of NR tags, maybe.
One board member mentioned he was going to submit a proposal to close 19C for 5 years. Wonder if all those hunts that are booked will get moved to another unit, canceled, or ? Chits about to get interesting. Consensus, is sheep numbers pretty much statewide populations are 50-60% less than...
