    Fishing Boats, Let's See Um!

Josh I'm hopeful that my up top bedroom has been maintained appropriately ha ha.

    Interior AK Moose via Canoe

I killed what you might call a 4 or 5 year old bull on a canoe trip once. We got myself, my friend, a modest camp, and the whole moose out in a 17' Grumman square stern (no motor, just paddles). Not a lot of free board, and space-wise we were pretty much shoe-horned into the seats. It was...

Best wheel gun setup for griz protection?

From the pic in your avatar, will you be hunting with a recurve and a shooting glove ? If so, whatever you get make sure it has a decent-sized trigger guard so that you can easily get your trigger finger in place with the glove on. I've got a small collection of handguns for this kindof thing...

July Alaska King Salmon Trip Lodge or Guide Recommendations

The only substantive in-river king fishing in July is in the Kasilof, Kenai, and Nush drainages. The Kasilof is surprisingly low use in July, and you'll be fishing from a drift boat. The Nush is much more remote , but you'll likely have more people fishing around you and you'll be in a power...

Likely a must-have in a lot of sheep hunters packs next year

Must be some spruce tips in it, and pretty citrusy. I'll be saving the cans as empties.

Likely a must-have in a lot of sheep hunters packs next year

AK T, I got them at the brewery off King St. I had heard about it. They just started selling them today. Dunno if they will be sold elsewhere.

Likely a must-have in a lot of sheep hunters packs next year

Not often I have a beer, but well worth a short drive in a blizzard. . Pretty tasty too. .

    Ptarmigan hunting

I typically find them in the same places year after year. A snogo is best for initially finding them or sign, so you can cover a lot of ground. I usually see tracks or their overnight snow caves first, unless they flush. Usually they work a spot for awhile, so unless it's snowed recently...

Coldest Temp you have camped/hunted in?

Tons of times checking traps between -20 and -40, shooting ptarmigan or a snowshoe hare occasionally along the way. A few times at -20 to -30 for caribou. One hunt for bison when it was between -20 and -35 during the day. You just have to dress for it and minimize exposing your skin. Having...

Anyone ever hunt with Davis Outfitters out of Dillingham, AK

I flew with Gabe in 2016, when he was flying for another outfitter. Good pilot and nice guy.

    Base Camp Cots

Camp time roll-a-cot. Very sturdy, very comfy. The bag it comes in attaches to the side of the cot for holding flashlights, etc.

    Help me with coffee fellas...

This. The older, rigid, original version of this is the Melita filter. They come in different sizes, large enough for just a cup or for a whole pot.

    30-30 scope choice

Agree with the Leupold 1.5-5, great scope. Another good one if you can find it is a Weaver V3 1-3. Huge field of view.

    Hoffman Outbacks ankle support strap

Really like my Outbacks. Have not worn them without the ankle strap, so can't speak to that directly. But they don't "slip" on my leg or foot like pack boots sometimes do, and maybe it's the ankle strap ?

Bear defense rifle for AK trip

I was gonna suggest a 12 gauge pump if you have one. Looks like you do. Brenneke "green" slugs are the ones to use. Hard cast and relatively fast. Nearly all of the problem bears, black and brown, that are killed by State wildlife & fish guys are by 12 gauge Brenneke green slugs from a...

    White Sox bite cure

I seem to have acquired some kind of resistance to the effects of the bites. Used to be they got itchy and swelled, sometimes even a little blood. But as I remember when they were a problem, calamine lotion was a real help.

    ..........

I guess I'm a little late. I've stayed in some of the hilleberg tunnel tents and have an allak 2. Love the allak 2, for one person especially. The 2 side doors with vestibules really works for me. The steep sidewalls on the tunnels are nice, but I just don't prefer the tunnels due to the...
