I killed what you might call a 4 or 5 year old bull on a canoe trip once. We got myself, my friend, a modest camp, and the whole moose out in a 17' Grumman square stern (no motor, just paddles). Not a lot of free board, and space-wise we were pretty much shoe-horned into the seats.
It was...
From the pic in your avatar, will you be hunting with a recurve and a shooting glove ? If so, whatever you get make sure it has a decent-sized trigger guard so that you can easily get your trigger finger in place with the glove on.
I've got a small collection of handguns for this kindof thing...
The only substantive in-river king fishing in July is in the Kasilof, Kenai, and Nush drainages.
The Kasilof is surprisingly low use in July, and you'll be fishing from a drift boat.
The Nush is much more remote , but you'll likely have more people fishing around you and you'll be in a power...
I typically find them in the same places year after year. A snogo is best for initially finding them or sign, so you can cover a lot of ground. I usually see tracks or their overnight snow caves first, unless they flush. Usually they work a spot for awhile, so unless it's snowed recently...
Tons of times checking traps between -20 and -40, shooting ptarmigan or a snowshoe hare occasionally along the way.
A few times at -20 to -30 for caribou. One hunt for bison when it was between -20 and -35 during the day.
You just have to dress for it and minimize exposing your skin. Having...
Really like my Outbacks. Have not worn them without the ankle strap, so can't speak to that directly. But they don't "slip" on my leg or foot like pack boots sometimes do, and maybe it's the ankle strap ?
I was gonna suggest a 12 gauge pump if you have one. Looks like you do.
Brenneke "green" slugs are the ones to use. Hard cast and relatively fast. Nearly all of the problem bears, black and brown, that are killed by State wildlife & fish guys are by 12 gauge Brenneke green slugs from a...
I seem to have acquired some kind of resistance to the effects of the bites. Used to be they got itchy and swelled, sometimes even a little blood.
But as I remember when they were a problem, calamine lotion was a real help.
I guess I'm a little late.
I've stayed in some of the hilleberg tunnel tents and have an allak 2.
Love the allak 2, for one person especially. The 2 side doors with vestibules really works for me.
The steep sidewalls on the tunnels are nice, but I just don't prefer the tunnels due to the...
