    Rosie season recap

I'd have to go back and look for it, but someone on here once told me he figures it takes 10 heart pounding encounters before one lines up well enough to let an arrow go.... i find it was good advice , anything less than that and im considering it good luck! Sounds like a great season and...

Trophy Elk: What's it to YOU

guess i havent killed enough elk with my bow yet, cause im absolutely over the moon for every elk i kill with archery gear, in sh*t units on public land in CO surrounded by 100's of other hunters. Over. The. Moon. So d@mn happy and excited and i dont have any shame hanging a 4x5 Euro in my...

    Pikes Peak Region Elk

There are elk... but its such a big recreation area for front range folks that it gets hammered all year by hiking, biking, riding, dog walking, jogging, asshattery that the elk herds arent huge from my experience.... and they make very large loops around the area so can be hard to locate if...

    Elk recognizing mouth calls?

Folks got a lot of theories and it makes them feel better about their time in the elk woods. My friend went for his first archery elk hunt 2 years ago with no experience and no help... just some words of encouragement from me and a location to check out. Called in and shot a bull using the...

Archery Setups to Minimize Frontal Shots

man your a sharp shooter... that elk would have to be standing still watching the sky for me to take a 50 yard frontal shot comfortably. At the range? Yea for sure..... but... oof i dont know if im that confident on an animal in the woods

Archery Setups to Minimize Frontal Shots

mmm... was the brim on the cap flat? If the brim wasnt flat, those elk gonna bust you everytime, no movement needed serious note, i agree, cant be moving when that elks coming , if you can see the elk he can see you, and he's evolved to catch any movement at all. IF that elks on the way over...

    2024 Bugle Report

Been a warm September here in CO. Was out fly fishing this weekend and enjoying the aspen colors and didnt hear a bugle anywhere. Did see a hunters head lamp coming down a mountain one night , good for him for staying til it was dark, doin it right. Then i heard a rifle shot up in the...

    First elk hunt

Sure looks like a wallow ... but .... not one thats being used currently. I see moss and grass growing near the water.... and its not covered in splashed mud all around it. Certainly rubs you have photo'd ... could be a nice mule deer or could be elk, some say they can tell by the height of...

    Scratching my head a bit…

I hit the same ole spots time and time again ..... actually this thread makes me wish i had more also.... but they keep producing so not sure. I generally just move around to different places in the valley every day, i rarely hit the same place two days in a row - may just be a half mile down...

    HELP NO BLOOD

Hard to say for sure without a toppo of the area and i wouldnt be releasing a toppo of any hunting spot on the internet. He likely headed for a bedding area and laid down, i'd run ridges within a mile and i'd be looking for crows and ravens.

    HELP NO BLOOD

At this point .... follow the crows and ravens..... theyll fly over head, or youll hear them....... spend a couple days doing that.

Elk that recently moved through area

Yea, thats the stuff i end up hunting, especially here in CO. There's elk in those heavily wooded deadfall holes but theyre awful tough to sneak up on, when im moving im usually cow calling now and then and i rely heavily on getting responses to my bugles / cow calls for locating. It's...

Elk that recently moved through area

They could have been in the areas you found the fresh sign. I've seen an entire herd stuff themselves into a tiny finger of cover/pine trees up near the ridge with clearings on either side.... they came out to feed the clearings in the evenings but you'd never be able to tell glassing that...

What do you expect next year in the CO archery OTC units?

Guessing this is a typo because 81 is no longer OTC, was switched to a point unit 3 years ago. I dont know if the landowner will get vouchers or not, thats likely up to the landowner to apply for them but im unfamiliar with how all that is done. edit: for archery 81 is no longer OTC, you may...

What do you expect next year in the CO archery OTC units?

Hard to say, i expect things to continue looking the same, so they will likely release with a huge tag limit, and most will get a first choice tag out of it, unless they're wiling to lower the tag limits. The units ive hunted the last couple years are more crowded now than they were when they...

    2024 Bugle Report

No chance any ones missing the peak rut by mid September.... those bulls are just getting warmed up. Activity is gonna change day to day just based off of the cows coming into estrus or not and the weather will have some minor effect on that... but its really just about those cows
