Ted K from ARC said in a podcast a few years ago that the reason he doesn't donate to PRS prize tables is that "when you see someone using my stuff I want you to know that they thought it was so good they spent their hard earned money on it." I've thought about that a lot over the last few...
That looks like an interesting option!
I have an OR Ascendant jacket, which is 90 GSM Alpha Direct with Pertex Quantum face fabric. It does really well, better than any other mid layer I've owned. I'd still like to see a hunting specific jacket made with no insulation on the back where a pack...
If a person wants to kill cleanly and humanely, isn't the reliability of their optical aiming device of considerable importance?
I think people do have issues, they just call them something else. It's been awhile since I've watched any amount of hunting videos, but both Fresh Tracks and...
I hunt an area that will have wolves (occasionally it already does). I think they are cool animals, but the reintroduction is wrong place/wrong time.
You have to understand that there has been some real disingenousness around management in the WY/MT/ID wolves. Management has been delayed way...
This is my question as well. Sounds like if you kill something you have to make an extra trip into there?
Maybe carry a big dry bag to leave non essentials in?
We have at times done 2000 ft up before daylight. As much as I'd love to leave my pack behind, I sure want to bring a load of meat...
Understood. And it's absolutely true that Matt will never 100% get his wishes. But he is making people think, which is good, in my opinion.
I agree that some videos are well done, the problem seems to be that if we have the well done ones we also have to have the terrible ones. And I...
I'm not going to get into the weeds here, but Matt is not anti social media. This is one of the common misconceptions of his ideas. He is against putting certain specific things on social media.
I'm probably actually more radical than Matt on this one, I avoid algorithm driven social media as...
I'm chuckling a bit here, because when a biologist running a tiny organization in his spare time in eastern MT gets Cam and Rogan fired up, we might be forgiven for wondering who exactly is easily offended....
I disagree with a few of Matt's stances (how far to shoot at animals, for one) but...
If I'm honest, I have to admit that I do leave my pack occasionally as well. I try not to, but....
I use stock packs on my rifles, so I always have extra ammo and a lense cloth in there. The biggest issue I have is a place for a headlamp and an emergency kit. Both really should be on my...
I usually hike in a light baselayer and windshirt (BD Alpine Start). Similar strategy, I stop and put on a Alpha Direct layer and a puffy immediately. I did test a set of Woolnet bottoms this year, and will be getting more.
On the jacket thing, 100% agreed. Someone needs to make a hooded...
This 100% makes sense, and is why I feel like the balance is hard to strike, for myself. For some context, I'm not a very big guy (which means most bino harnesses cover a fair bit of area for me), and am quite a heavy sweater. As I've experimented over the years, it seems like the biggest thing...
I've never used AW mags, but I have used a rifle with AICS 5 rnd as well as a CZ 527 with their little 5 rnd detachable mags. If a detachable mag system works works well, I greatly prefer it to a floorplate. And I used floorplate systems for quite a few years.
This sounds familiar!
I have spent a lot on a layering system that breathes as it should. Covering most of it up with things that aren't breathable just seems weird.
The balance is hard to strike, though. I've been using the RYO harness and cover. The harness is great, but the cover is a...
