Some good advice above.
First know your herd, some herds/bucks start to migrate early regardless of weather. If not, they will generally be close to their summer range, just a 1,000 ft. lower, and in the thicker stuff. May take a few mornings or evenings, before you see him, and then a few...
Anyone ditch their spotter and just use a their 25-30 power rifle scope instead? I realize it's not going to be as good as a big spotter, but I imagine it wouldn't give up much to a compact spotter? Figure I could save 6 lbs not carrying a spotter and tripod.
If your not into skiing - Wolf hunting is open. Think they are around $50 -$100 for a nonresident. Not very good odds of getting one, plus you’ll need a Monday to check it in

From what I’ve seen and heard in MT, the second weekend of November, with the cold temps, was the week to hunt this year. Took my daughter out the 3rd week and it was warm and a muddy mess, with only small bucks on the does during daylight.

Never hunted 33, but close. I think your on the right track as far as elevation with the lack of snow. Focus on the pine/aspen transition zone. glass the openings at first and last light on the southern exposures.
Opportunities for deer of that caliper don't come around often, and when they do, they often quick and not perfect setups - I would have taken the shot. Thanks for sharing and hope you get another chance at him.
I have 3 tents, not just for sheep hunting:
Tarptent Notch - Awesome light weight tent that uses your trekking poles or some branches/saplings for support. 2 small vestibules, and good in moderate wind (<40 mph). Would not use in snow loads over 3"
Hilleberg Unna - Pretty much bombproof with...
Not much experience on whitetail, but 140-150 would probably equate to 160-170 class mule deer?
Achievable, even on general/easier to draw tags, if you can pass bucks up - and be willing to go home empty handed. I'd look to Colorado 1-3 point units and use some of your whitetail hunting skills...
I have a Tundra, wife has a Tacoma. The Tundra was not that much more than the Tacoma. Both Trucks have not had a single issue. To me, the Tacoma is not comfortable for longer trips and I'm only 6 feet even. And it's constantly downshifting on any grade, w/o a trailer. The Tacoma is better off road.
What does "included" tags mean, included in your total cost or some type of landowner tag? MT and WY draws are over & not available for purchase, and pretty sure the landowner tags aren't allowable for private sell. ID does have general tags available in some units for elk, not sure of the...
Sounds like you have good expectations for MT. I think you'll find plenty of deer, but mediocre quality anywhere in the eastern half of MT. With today's information and technology, the bucks don't have much of a chance to get older than 3 when the season goes until Dec,
I have a Tundra, wife has a Tacoma. Tacoma's are great off road, but the seats and ergonomics are terrible for medium to long trips. I'm only 6', I would wait until they fixed this issue in the next generation, as there are many similar reviews. Toyota's are darn reliable though
Been wanting to return to the look and feel of a wood stock in the $800 - $1500 range, and kind of like the SS barrel look. Still want it to be accurate (~1 moa), but also pretty, but not so pretty I won't use - 300 Win Mag or 300 wsm. Any opinions?
Here's what I'm looking at from my research...
Climate change caused by humans is probably real. There will be winners and losers when it shakes out in the next hundred years (Siberia & Canada). The real issue no one will tackle is human population growth, especially in developing countries/cultures..... As Americans who have been used to...
They are there, but in low densities. I'd be more concerned about lightning from a statistical point of view. Your chances of having a bad griz encounter are probably less than getting into a fatal accident on the way there - just take common sense precautions and enjoy the hunt/country
It all depends on what you want. Most of the unlimited sheep won't be "trophy" rams, score wise. Been hunting it for 3 years as a resident, and it is awesome country, but looking for a needle in a haystack - I know of some very good hunters that have been at it longer without a ram to show for...
I would say you probably need more than 4 days to figure things out (access, elevation the bears are at, ect.). So far, this has been a light winter in MT (not complaining after last year). If there's not a lot of snowpack come spring, it can make finding bears more difficult as there is more...
Sneaky - the 20/100 is probably high and is less important to the math, than the FWP "count" timing (if it includes the recent fawns). If so, the percentage would drop to ~60% of the bucks being harvested every year (and much higher on public land). Additionally, that harvest number does not...
