This was my second time hunting MT. Last year we went a couple weeks before the rut action started. We had a great time, and spotted several bucks. I was surprised to see a lot of bucks already locked down with a doe on Nov 17th. Overall, we hunted 3.5 days, logged 40.7 miles on foot, and filled both tags. We hunted a mixture of BMA's and small parcels of state land. Couldn't have asked for a better trip, and hope to get the opportunity to go back next year.

Both awesome bucks! Congrats on a successful hunt. We were in eastern MT, what about yourselves?

Nice job man, nice bucks too. Cool place to hunt out there, way better than the local eats. I'm thinking about going again next year, that would make it 3 years in a row.

Thanks! It will be our 3rd year next year as well. Hopefully we get lucky in the draw.

From what I’ve seen and heard in MT, the second weekend of November, with the cold temps, was the week to hunt this year. Took my daughter out the 3rd week and it was warm and a muddy mess, with only small bucks on the does during daylight.

It definitely seemed like a lot of bucks were locked down. We also had a couple warm/muddy days where i might have fell in mud more than once.. All in good fun.

I’ve spent the last 4 days up by the Canadian border and they seem to be rutting but it definitely slowing down. Seen a lot of good whitetail and muley’s that were locked down with does. All four of us and all tagged out on good deer. Here’s mine.
