With the ever increasing price of a North American Sheep hunt, where are the best values internationally?

I read the same DNA studies. This is based on DNA from the horn drill cuttings collected when installing the mandatory plug in harvested rams. Really shrinks the boundaries for what are true Stone sheep based on DNA.

    NWT Sheep gear decisions help

For early August based on NWT and BC: Chugach Raincoat Light Super Down coat Leave spotter behind if guide has an excellent spotter with a digiscope attachment and good phone....otherwise take it with all the above plus a tripod. Big weight decision for sure...7 pounds in my case. And your...

    White Bear

Congrats on the white bear! Great photos and writeup! Maybe is my most memorable hunt out of the NA29 for me. I arrowed mine on the 11th day of a 10 day hunt as well....but on Feb 23! Really short days that time of year.

    Exercise reduces depression

Between having a bird dog that needs an hour plus of exercise daily plus wanting to be able to continue to bowhunt the mountains through my '70's, I stay active. An occasional tune-up at the physio for some new exercises helps when I get a nagging sore knee or hip too.

    Solar vs generators??

Hunting in northern latitudes in November you have really short days, long nights and cold temperatures. You flat need a generator then. October too if you hit a some cloudy weather. Right now with 16 hrs of sun and warmer temperatures you sure do not as the solar system is wonderful. I...

    Vintage Scopes with Modern Quality

I bought a used Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40 AO that has 5 custom dots (think LR reticule) in it many years ago. The scope has been on several different varmint rifles including a .222 Remington, a .204 Ruger, two or 3 .17 HMRs, a .260 Remington and probably a couple I have likely forgotten...

Have you moved out of state?

Grew up in central WI. Worked in mines in WV and CO in the summers while in college. Settled in CO for 35 years....bowhunted everything down there, married a CO girl. We were planning to leave CO when I retired. Got recruited to come up to BC right after I retired the first time. Made the...

Stone sheep info for BC resident

Backpacking in and hunting solo is great! But do you have the conditioning, time and ability to pack out a ram plus your camp? They aren’t huge but still add at least one or possibly two more round trips to the hunt for the packout (unless you are one super tough strong dude). A lot...

    Archery Harvest Pics for sheep?

Yes, you read it right. Lots of bowhunting with an occasional arrowed ram. DIY bowhunting for sheep is great if you can draw an LEH tag or buy OTC licenses. But not super successful in terms of rams harvested per hunting days. For me it likely about a ram every 5 weeks of hunting time. My...

    Swarovision Vs Non

We have both, SV from 2012 and earlier 10x42 EL’s from around 2003. The SV is a substantial improvement in clarity across the whole field of view. The only drawback is it weighs a few ounces more. We still like the old EL and use it in the kitchen for checking out “whatever” down by the...

    mini excavator

We have a 43 HP JD 4600 MFD tractor with a JD 480 rear mounted hoe as well as 460 loader attachment. Been great around our house build and subsequent landscaping. Snow removal too as well as digging up a leaky water line and planting more trees, etc. Have <$20,000 in it and its been reliable...

Interesting place to find an antelope skull

Had a place at 10,000’ elevation around Leadville, CO. Had antelope on it in the summers 15 plus years ago.

    BC Bucket list hunt?

All caribou will be on a draw (LEH) this fall. You could hunt moose or Stone sheep up north. Check the hunting regulations for what is open vs LEH. And the LEH just opened up last week for getting your name in the drawings.

Honda XR bike: 250R and 650L- first hand experience?

I had a a 2002 XR250R for a couple years starting in 2007. I did not like it very well for high country CO (10,000’ to 13,000’ elevation) use. Too tall, too under powered for gearing, felt heavy but don’t remember weight. Glad to get rid of it and get a Honda 350 Rancher 4x4 quad for less...

    Multiple bows?

I have a matching pair of old Prime Rivals....different camo pattern but everything else is identical from the sight to the arrow rest to the draw length and draw weight. Really nice to pick them up and have them shooting the same.

    .17hmr weight

17 gr V-max (plastic tipped) for small varmints as they are explosive and hardly ever ricochet. The hollow points are not as destructive to small rodents like ground squirrels and prairie dogs and will often whine out across a flat after a shot. My rifles all shot the V-max the best but that...

    Baffin Island - Unique Adventure!

Great photos and story! Thanks for posting! Inuits are amazingly tough and resourceful! Fun to listen to their stories. I bowhunted them starting Feb 12, 2018 for 11 days out of Resolute Bay. What an adventure! We only had 7 hrs of daylight at first. Weathered a severe storm before I...

Headed out. Any experience on bear behavior on cold spring days?

Slow bear hunting on cold, gray, windy days in my experience in BC. Clover is slow to emerge this spring but leaves are coming in in my areas. Should get better in a week.

    Hunting near US/Mexico border

Had a couple mules (camo clad carrying big packs) walk within 25 yards a year ago. Was up in a small tree, they never saw me. Then they laid down in a wash about 75 yards out and talked for the next hour. Screwed up my evening hunt. I stayed in the tree until dark and snuck out of there...

    Duffle bag as luggage

I use a Cabelas rolling duffel, the Ripcord XL (discontinued with the buyout by Bass Pro) and carry my bow(s), arrows, Kifaru framepack, boots, sleeping bag, tent, extra clothes, etc in it. Duffel weighs 10#s so I pack 39.5 more pounds as required in the big duffel. The rolling wheels and...
