    Scammed by an Alaskan Guide

Original poster: sounds just like how Tom Shankster used operate in Alaska. Google him for similar rip-offs that went on for over 20 years. He is dead now but sure was a shady operator.

Wolf killed by Duck Hunter in Wisconsin

Watched a coyote get shot running quartering away at 25 paced yards. A 1-1/8 ounce load of #6 lead shot from my brother’s IC choked 16 ga dropped him on the spot. We were pheasant hunting in SD and the coyote took off from the opposite side of a stone pile. I was impressed but wouldn’t take...

Wolf killed by Duck Hunter in Wisconsin

Pattern your shotgun on cardboard at 7 yards. You’ll see a 2” hole thru the cardboard if you have a tight choke (waterfowl) in. Very destructive on anything at very close range. Don’t shoot a steel plate up close as it it likely will rebound back at you. Dad killed a few beef cows for...

All-time favorite Sub Gauge Upland Bird hunting Gun?

This year it’s the wife’s 20 ga AYA #2 round body sidelock. 28” barrels, IC and mod, twin triggers, splinter Forend and English grip stock….6 pounds. Done my best shooting on grouse ever with it this fall. 9 grouse with 10 shots. 1 ounce reload of hard 7.5 shot at about 1220 fps. Think we’ve...

Kuiu Upland Field Vest Review ***Updated 11/24/24***

I chuckled about the box of shells too! Looks like the vest holds 6 per each pocket in shell loops. I usually fill up the pocket loops (dozen) on the old Cabela’s strap vest, then load the gun and call it enough for upland hunting. But if dove hunting I could see having more. Ordered KUIU...

Can altitude increase have health impacts?

Alcohol affects you more at higher elevations! Most can handle 5,000’ with no issues. 8,000’ and especially higher is another issue. Some people have trouble sleeping, headaches, memory lapses, lethargic, etc. Some develop too many red blood cells (too carry more oxygen due the thin air) and...

    Vacuum sealing burger bags

Our chamber sealer, a one year old Avid Armor Ultra is bulky and heavy to store and move...wouldn't want to take it on a hunt. It is noisy as heck, about like my air compressor. It is very slow as it takes 50 seconds to seal a package. It "boils" soup unless it the soup is very cold coming out...

    Identify this old broadhead?

I believe it is a Ben Pearson Broadhead called a 4x4 #781 Skeleton. My dad had some similar heads on arrows I still have from the 1940’s. His broadheads were not barbed like the OP and were the Skeleton #782 style.

    Enclosed trailer advice

Weldor, you can order extra-height trailers inn 6" increments. My Cargo Mate was 6' (72") stock with 5'10" rear barn doors. I needed 6" more for my stock RZR so ordered the trailer 6'6" (78") inside height. Fits the RZR fine and much nicer to camp in. One of many advantages to ordering the...

    Black Bear BH?

I like 3-blade 1.5" mechanicals on bears.....decent blood trails, excellent accuracy. Our hunting is almost all sport and stalk (or hounds) on blacks here....we can't hunt them over bait. Bow shots are often a bit longer than bait hunts in other jurisdictions.

Pump shotguns- Who is manufacturing the best?

Love Winchester Model 12's. The large frame 12 ga versions for clay target shooting and the small frame 16 ga, 20 ga and 28 ga guns which all utilize the same frame size for carrying in the uplands. My 1935 20 ga 26" barrel with a solid rib only weighs about 6#5oz. Winchester made over 2...

    Leupold Rangefinder: Archery Mode?

So I just finished a test comparing my old 2013 model year "slow" Leica 1000R vs my Leupold RX1600i-TBR w/DNA from 2018: I took took multiple ranges from positions directly above my archery target at 30 yds, 50 yds, 70 yds, 90 yds, then a side-hill steep down hill range(s) at 80 yds. Each...

    Leupold Rangefinder: Archery Mode?

I’ve got the same Leupold rangefinder as you. Have only used it in archery mode. Works very well for me on decline shots both in my mountainous back yard and hunting mountain game…sheep and caribou come to mind. The illustrated example in the manual appears to possibly be in error? My...

Best mechanical broad head for big game?

The Taiwan built Spitfires I bought around 5 years ago? after getting a bit low on US originals were: -Difficult to open as they increased the "dimple-plate" blade retainer from .004" to .005" thick and has a larger dimple sticking up .003" higher . Really increased the force required to open...

    Broadhead Storage/Travel

If they have to be removed like going into the Northern Territory of Australia I number and remove them from the shafts. I store them in a small hard plastic jar hand cream came in. I cut some foam to the diameter (3” or so) and stuck it into the jar, then poke the broadheads vertically in for...

Shooting the spine out an arrow?

I wonder if Hunting Oregon got his arrow/tune problem solved? Would be nice to get a wrap on this year old thread containing a lot of speculation on potential causes and "shot out spine".

    Nissan Xterra

We have never had any issues ever with the wife's 2008 Xterra Off-Road with a 4.0 l V-6 (New style, not what the OP is looking at). Only 92,000 miles though. Just normal maintenance with tires, filters and oil changes plus wipers, etc. Unit still drives like new. Was 4-wheeled around...
